Do different types of casing have advantages over each other?

Like pure Coir vs Pure vermiculite. Or is a Coir/Vermiculite Blend even better than straight Coir?

I don't think coir is really a "casing" since it will fully colonize, just slowly. It's good for a top layer for folks who want to cover their exposed grain ( which should be fully colonized anyways so wtf ). I've tried the likes of potting mix and peat and even wood chips. The wood chips actually worked excellent but I didn't like how the mushrooms had wood embedded in the stem bases.

I think the point is to have something that creates a good surface enviro without being colonized.

Also you're probs gunna be told this isn't advanced forum material.

I am now a firm believer in the Pseudo case/top layering @ spawn(just 100% Coir) with cubes.

Most say thin as you can make it but I noticed I need to "match" the thickness of the case with the aggressiveness of the myc. If it's more aggressive I want a thicker case so it doesn't fully colonize it. I also believe in surface conditions aka level as you can make it. Wish I was doing this years ago!
