Grocery bag with unsterilized sawdust?

Since I’m home all day anyway I was planning on using eat’s Scott’s mulch grocery bag tek to grow some oysters and lions mane, but I only have hwfp for substrate. I was planning on going colonized oats to unsterilized sawdust in the grocery bags, but I’ve heard unsterilized sawdust will yield poorly due to rival contaminants unless you spawn heavy. Would pasteurizing the sawdust be a better option since the grains are already colonized? If so would it matter if it was heat or lime pasteurized? I’d be fine letting it colonize in jars but I don’t think breaking it up before fruiting would be good for yields lol.

So you're using the HWFP you first mentioned, not sawdust correct? You just confuse me by referring to them as sawdust... sawdust, that comes from a saw, DOES need to be properly pasteurized for the reasons you said.
HWFP don't need to be properly pasteurized, as they pretty much already have been when they were made (lots of heat/compression used). So you can just pour boiling water on them and when cool you're good to go!

Oh snap! I thought they were interchangeable because I thought HWFP basically turn into sawdust when mixed with water. So pasteurizing again wouldn’t help with yields at all?

You are correct, they basically do turn into sawdust, it's just we have to designate between the two for mushroom growing purposes, because real sawdust needs true pasteurization, HWFP do not.
Help with yields? I don't see why it would. You could run a side by side test and see, but I don't think so.
