That’s what I ask myself often, how do I know what it is. I hear it tossed around a lot but it just seems vague.
I mentioned what I felt for my dog which seemed like love, but I didn’t really want to care for her I just missed her being gone which is why I thought my crying was odd

Love hurts. Love stinks. Love heals. I mean, it's a busy construct.
I always love that line "if this were love how would I know" because it's so poetic, and 14 year old deep. I mean really. God is love? Cool. Give me some of that. But is this all Love? God is Love? God is everywhere? I can spin myself in a circle quickly.
But back to love. It stands on it's own. Sorry to even mention God. Not too sorry though. Love. It's what we all want. It binds us.
There is a saying, where your treasure is, your heart will be also.
Love is one of those things - when you share it - it gets bigger. More to go around. It stands alone but perpetuates itself. Without love, where would you be now?
I am interested in how this conversation evolved - I just chimed in without thinking - but will read what you lovers think.

There is a lot of mythology about love, but it boils down to one very simple concept:
Love is the feeling that another being's well-being is more important than your own.
That's it. It can be short-lived. It can be lifelong. It can be one-sided.
Being "in love" is something completely different. That's a selfish thing where you want another person to enhance your life. Totally different.

Losing love is like a window to your heart, everybody see's your blown apart, everyone sees the wind blow.
For reasons I cannot explain.
I am still a student of Love, but I have enjoyed most lessons.

Ah, then I have never loved anyone if that's the case.

You likely haven't. You're probably young, though. Besides, I'm not sure Floridians are capable of love.

Compassion is better than contempt in my experience. Humans are just another animal. We’re the first we know of to be in the position we are in, so cut us some slack Thanatos

I don't believe this is true, but I did not bring a sword nor would I unsheath it.
My parents exemplify this much. I have been a pain in the ass, and made it very difficult to love me. At times, Love would not be in my vocabulary for them. Still, their love persists.
Or, you ever have the realization/trip/whathaveyou where you realize the warmth and glow of this nurturing earth? That was not absent despite you not being aware of it.
There are other examples, but if you thought this through before you posted you are entitled to your thoughts.

I can't, my ire for humanity is pretty strong. It's likely why I don't love any human.

How’s it a phase? Humans have historically harvested the planet for their own ends, the only checks on them was technology.

That's not the part that's a phase. Your ire part is. A lot of people go through a period where we hate humans. Eventually, you get to the point where you realize that hating humans for acting like humans is like hating a snake for being a snake. There's a whole lot of beauty still left in the world.

Like I said...just a phase. Enjoy your moody, broody period, though. Someday, you'll laugh about it.

Not really, it's more like just realizing the truth of what humans are and once you do you don't grow out of it.

In my opinion, there has to be some kind of mutual exchange of love. To me, that is true Love or at least a major part of it.

That's youth and inexperience. If you think you know any truth at all, it only shows that you haven't lived enough.

People keep saying that but to me that just sounds like bias. After having lived enough my view of humanity remains the same. One needs to only look at our history to understand why.
