Drove a bit North today (DE)... Am I barking up the right tree? I only had a few minutes to look around but this seems super promising. Celandine everywhere.

Looks good. Surprised how your vegetation seems like it’s two weeks behind here

Hiked into last years honey hole and no love. My southern facing patches that popped on the 13th and 14th aren't doing well (some pic's below).
Nights are still to cold.

Warren PA county is void of ovoids so far...
We don't have leaves on the trees at all yet. In fact, we have snow on the ground in most of the county from the last couple days of snow. First week or two of May looks good here.

@Shroomhunts You found one hell of a spot! Those clusters are just amazing
@koods That's a crazy big winecap you got! I'm glad your at least finding something. It's been slow to start up this way. Nice finds so far
Just about everything stalled out around the spots I go to. I was able to find 20 of them in a spot I checked out last yr, so it'll be cool to see how it does when things actually get going. Things appear to be setting up nice for next week tho, so shouldn't be more than a week till everywhere is fruiting. Looking forward to all the pics about to posted.

All the ones I found last year showed almost no visible bruising, but they were the real deal. Maybe it's just certain environments. They were pretty strong though. Although I found some a few years ago which the entire mushrooms looked so dark they went almost black. Who knows.

That's what happened at all but two spots down here. The first flush started coming on, then we had multiple Fire Warning days--days with humidity down around 20% & high West and NW winds--which not only stalled the flush but aborted many pins.

When ovoids are very wet and very old they sometimes wont stain (although those specimens often will as they start drying). More common, though, is lack of blue staining when they dry and stall out while growing. The field-dried ones simply wont stain most of the time.

Idk what to do boys trying to pick these one at a time is like trying to drink a lake with a straw. I dont want to disturb the pins, but its starting to seem like pullting them up is the only way to get them before they rot. I never thought id have a patch so big. Under every leaf and nettle is another massive cluster. What would you do in this situation? Should I jist pull them all and use the stembutts to seed a fuck ton of new patches? I got friends that could help but not sure I want them knowing bout this one... When I started hunting I joked about finding a patch so large that it would grow back before I could pick them all. If only I knew.
My hands and legs are fucked up bad from this nettle anyone got a good remedy?

As I've aged and been exposed to it more times, it has become like mosquito bites and poison ivy; it's never as bad as it used to be for me.
If you're having a persistent bad reaction, you can try taking a shower and a benadryl tab. The needles have a histamine along with an acid that I've forgotten the name of. I've never tried it since it resolves so quickly on it's own for me, but maybe an antihistamine will help
Edit: as far as harvesting that colony...start harvesting around the edges and if some complete their life cycle then so be it. At a certain point one has to ask, 'just how many do I need?' and let some run their natural course. Even if you do so, you will still have more than you can eat in a year plus enough to turn on your friends and your friends' friends.
Re: pulling or clipping fruits...it has been shown with other species that carefully pulling up fruit bodies had little to no effect on following years' production. I practice both clipping and pulling depending on conditions and havent seen any difference year to year, but I've obviously not done anything in a scientific manner. And yes, you should be making new colonies all over while feeding existing ones at the end of fruiting season, IMO.

If the grass is thick, just pull em up. Often times the stems are super long and more than half the weight. Pull up the clusters unless you can get scissors down in there. Mulch that has put out a massive cluster is probably done as substrate anyways. Might not even hurt to churn things up a bit.
If there are a lot of pins still developing nearby I’ll be more careful.

It just hurts my soul when I pull the clusters and see all the little pins growing from the stembutts. At the same time I think it may do the world some good if I take all those stembutts and colonize the whole city.
Thsnk you for the replies everyone I appreciate the insight, I know that I am still new at this compared to veterans here and I really am grateful to have the best ovoid hunters to inspire me. Without the shroomery I would have never even started mushroom hunting and too all the new hunters out there, keep at it, you may get burnt out for awhile but eventually you will hit gold it is just a matter of dedication. Thanks again everyone

Common plantain is a great plant to learn. Gets rid of any bee sting or skin irritation within a few seconds to a few minutes. Grows everywhere and is perfect to have on hand to rub on those stinging nettle stings. Chew it up and throw it on the stinging areas and let it sit a few minutes.
For what its worth native American medicine says to grab them and let them sting you. Modern science has found those tricomes to be full of antioxidants and can significantly help with cold and flu season and reduces allergies.
Who knows. Might even help improve your odds against covid
