Newb - waiting to colonize tub before fruiting - water question

Hey folks, This is my first attempt at growing (B+). I was hoping for help from others who know what they're doing.
I have mixed my spawn with mushroom growing substrate (pasteurized horse manure w some additives, from OutGrow), and placed it in a tub at 75-80F, in the dark, covered with a small cup of water to evaporate, to wait for substrate colonization before I place it into fruiting conditions.
Over the course of a couple days the mycelium on grains started to spread very well - I could see the difference every few hours. The grains sprouted white fuzz, that was expanding. White tendrils started to form as well. That was until I decided to remove the water cup and heavily mist it.
The visible fuzzy mycelium on the surface shrunk and drooped down with moisture and the steady noticeable growing seems to have stopped. I let it air out for 20 min, to hopefully evaporate some of the excess water. There's no standing water, the the soil feels neither dry nor wet to the touch. The tub was maybe 50% colonized. I've re-covered it / back to 75-80F / waiting to colonize.
Questions: Did soaking the mycelium on the surface "drown" it or is this just a temporary slowdown? Does it look normal - I thought I read somewhere that white tendrils indicate that it needs more air?
I guess the main thing I'm looking for is a reassurance that I haven't ruined it by over-moisturizing.
Thank you!

You shouldn’t have to mist or do anything with water while the sub is colonizing, but yours does look kinda dry. Could just be the picture though. You never know with pre bought stuff how long ago it was made so it may have been at field capacity and lost some moisture on the way.
Misting won’t have drowned the mycelium though so if the spawn was healthy it should just keep on going.
You don’t want to suffocate it, and you don’t want it to dry out. So you need some fresh air while keeping things humid. What kind of tub setup are you using?
Also, colonizing in the dark is outdated info so you want ambient light. Mushrooms are kinda like people, rolling with a circadian rhythm.

I set up a mini greenhouse - with a computer fan slowly blowing air out, and on the other end I have air mister on a timer. I also have a thermostat w heater mats inside. Basically I can tune it to whatever temp + humidity I need with slow gentle airflow.
I have moved the tub w substrate+spawn into the greenhouse per your suggestion. Thanks for the advice!
