I think smartattack needs to get turnspit dog genetics, clone it and have the dog turn that ball around

Spheres have the highest surface area to volume ratio of any shape, anyone think this will affect anything? less flushes maybe? somebody mentioned that it might dry out faster too and that is something I would keep an eye on

But also, being a sphere 5" in radius, every point on the surface of the sphere has 5" of sub depth to the core below it. :muahaha:

It's all supposition at this point, we are stuck on this ride for now. I'm not to married to it performing great, I just don't want it to turn into trichmare on elm Street.

Cool idea.

I once had the idea of putting a metal eye hook inside a PF cake, then colonizing it with mycelium (obviously) so i could hang it inside an FC using fishing line. Still havent done it yet.....

Sphere has the smallest surface area to volume ratio dude. The reason why more surface area will be exposed is because it won't have a tub hugging it when fruiting

Minor update:

I pulled the cover off last night to check things out. I guess its about as you'd expect, but in light of keeping this blow by blow, here is where it stands.

I ALMOST feel like the hanger wire will be sufficient but I certainly dont trust it yet. I'm thinking what might be a safer bet is keeping the thing on a bottom supporting pedestal until fully colonized and maybe a tad dried out. For now Im opting to keep the two halves un-bolted and just loosely together. Im thinking in a couple / few days I will pull off the upper layer of saran. The saran is relatively loose and allowing some FAE ( not condensating ) but I'd like to get it some air. I'm kind of a big FAE fan.

Lookin good.

What about making a little mesh cup/circle to fit the bottom and then run wires off the sides of the mesh to hang it til you’re sure the hanger works??

Come on and make some ball cradling mesh undies for it.

lolz this is sick...had a similar idea last year about using a fish grilling basket to create a thin rectangluar brick and attach it like a spit through the center of a mono with a rod going through two holes drilled in the middle of the short side you can easily rotate it with haha

Saran wrap removed last night and top mould put back on. As stated, I'm a fan of giving air. Looks pretty dope so far. I'll probably post a pic tomorrow so there's at least some difference.

Thinking I'm going to "birth" this bitch tonight. Exterior is pretty much fully colonized and looking pretty tasty. Im still not feeling the love when testing the hanger wire, it's holding but...by a gnats eyelash I feel. Pedestal will be figured out.

I'll just be plopping her into an unmodded tub, perlite floor ( if I can source some easily today ).

Then into my tub room to wait and see.

I'm already thinking about the next round ( pun intended ) of this project. Torn between keeping the theme with APES or trying a rusty whyte? Of course in keeping with the theme, the white people did find their way to the planet of the apes right?

Next time around, I think I'll be building a more rigid scaffold and heavier cable. I will also make it much closer to the overall outside diameter so there will be no worries about holding the sub intact. Then again maybe the pedestal concept will be legit enough...

Will update with pics tonight.
