Found in grass bordering park and row of pine and oak trees, Santa Cruz Mnts, CA.
Pure white flesh when sliced open. Sweet smelling.
These are not large, only 2-inches max.

If You Cut It In Half & Saw No Gills & It Was White Then Yes, I Would Say It Is Edible.

Yeah, seems right. I'm just a little too concerned it could be Scleroderma areolatum, which is toxic. Highly doubt it, but when in doubt throw it out?

I'd say wait for a TI, but I think its edible as long as the inside is white.

Looks more like a Lycoperdon than a Calvatia. Was the flesh spongy? Or firm?

Spongy would be best way to define it, at least at this point. Aroma reminds me of Bailey's Irish Cream.
Don't need to eat this by the way, just interested for future reference. Didn't know all the puffballs I'd seen in the past were the end dry result. Thanks for lookin'!

They're edible. Wouldn't recommend eating it, though.

Why do you say that, is it the flavor or texture that you don't like?

It's so disgusting. The texture. Probably tastes like shit too, can't remember, the texture was so off putting.

Well, it tastes exceptionally musty, but not bad, at least when cooked well in a little salt and butter. Of course I only about 17 molecules. I'll try 34 tomorrow.
