I thought I picked a bad night to trip.
    #26621263 - 04/23/20 12:06 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

My girlfriend and I are in our mid 20s. She's a smoking hot lil thing I picked up one summer working in Yellowstone. Swept her off her feat and stole her from her daddy in Chicago.

We moved to a nice little town in the mountains. Not too touristy, but it is.  We lived in a few (pretty nasty) work exchanges, before we got lucky and wound up with our current landlord. She gets to have horses, and that makes me happy. Sometimes I'm afraid that the horses make her happier than I do. I remind myself that she chose me, and she can also love horses. Sometimes I'm still just a lovestruck schoolboy:rolleyes:

We have a friend who is staying with us. He got here yesterday. He's a cool dude, and I quickly realized I didn't know him as well as I thought I did. It's funny how that's true for most people. He is a hunter, and his dog is as well, a chocolate lab. Goose is a real hunting dog, and should be respected as such. My tale is evidence of this.

The three of us are walking below our house, on our property. we live near a body of moving water and there is wildlife; birds, deer, beaver, etc. Our dogs are off leash. My girlfriend and I's dog, Wiley, is making sport of harrasing my friends chocolate lab. I think to myself how this is a mundane night, and maybe wasn't the best for the 2g of p. cubensis that I harvested earlier that week. Suddenly, my friends dog approaches carrying an antler. A few minutes pass, and up ahead there's a disturbance. A wild spruce grouse has been startled and flies directly into the wire horse fence. We hear the twang and the dog is on the bird. We hold a brief ceremony for the loss of this beautiful bird. The five of us walk home with our bounty in hand.

On our stoop, we dressed the bird. I held it's breast in my hand and felt the life leaving the flesh while the clouds that had lingered all day opened up with rain.

I've long held an interest in hunting, but for one reason or another have never pursued it. I'm hoping this experience can be a catalyst. Hunting and fishing for food are wholesome honest practices that take us back to what it means to be human. For whatever reason, we are programmed for these activities and it brings us joy. It gives us a communion with the earth and deserves respect.

Tonight, I lay in bed, writing this message to you, untold internet masses. My girlfriend is asleep and just made the most silly noise. My dog lays at my feet.  The last of my mushrooms are wearing off, and my soul is overflowing. I thought I picked a bad night to trip, but I was reminded to look for the answers where they lie.

Just love each other,

Blubs

Never hurts to dip your toe into the natural order of things. Glad you got something nice out of it all.

The mushrooms never give me the trip I want, but they always give me the trip I need
