Hello, question about aged logs.
    #26620172 - 04/22/20 02:40 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hi Guys!
I'm from Edmonton Alberta.  I pick mushrooms for eating in the western alberta boreal forest and rocky mountains whenever i can.

My question is : can i grow oyster mushrooms on poplar logs that have been SITTING IN MY BACK YARD FOR A YEAR AND A HALF.  Thats the fall and winter, then one summer, then last winter till now.

There are some small white bracket fungi growing on a few of them already, on the end face.

These poplar logs are between two to three feet long, 8-12 inches wide. They have been lying on the ground a few feet north of my garage, so maybe a bit of sun in the summer

I want to grow the native oyster : pleurotus ostreatus, collect some feesh specimens this yr and drill a 3 inch hole 1/4 inch wide, stuff with mushroom, seal with candle wax. I am also thinking of maybe hanging these logs in the shade of the garage or leaning them set on a 2by4. But i also just read to stand them on a bed of leaves, wihich i like better.

If anyone could answer the q about the age of logs or has any advice they could offer, that would be much appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day.
