So far this season, counting me and three people I regularly hunt with, we've seen galerina fruiting within a foot of ovoids at least four times that I can remember off the top of my head. Prior to this season I had seen that fruiting combo only once.
All four times this year it was only one to three galerina with the ovoids so it wouldn't be deadly by any stretch, but I wonder just how many small to medium galerina it would take to give one violent diarrhea?

I seen them fruiting on the same log today... got to be careful put there, makes me nervous to pick with my hunting freinds, I have taught them to be careful but sometimes people make mistakes. Its important to examine every mushroom closely and be sure they all bruise blue before you put them in the bag. The bluing can be transfered to surfaces like wood, a plastic bag, your fingers, and even to a galerina mushroom. Be safe out there

I'm getting beyond stoked with all these finds, thanks for taking time to post the glory!
Question on ground cover- what small, close-growing plant species to look for?
From photos here, it looks like lesser celandine and clover are common cover for these guys, which really makes them needles in the haystack. I'm experienced hunting west coast woodlovers, which are much easier to spot in native habitat!
Here's an area I was checking out yesterday, with nothing spotted:

Another view:

The big boxes are all checked- floodplain, creekside, under box elder, Japanese knotweed popping up, but curious if there are key indicator species for the carpet of micro-greens down low can give me cause for pause to start turning over leaves!
Thanks for the knowledge bombs & photo inspiration...hope to be posting a haul soon!

Just FYI, western PA isn’t really fruitful yet — at least my common spots, which are mainly north-facing and shaded. Looks like others have had some awesome luck though in the more ideal spots. Happy hunting y’all!

Man this year will be epic. Things have stalled here. Have a stretch about a mile long they pop in. They have been popping since last Tuesday there and I have 6 bigger spots that aren't even popping yet. Not to mention none of the caps here are even half the size they get yet. Once it really kicks off here I'll be posting some of those almost hand sized buggers you guys are posting. Glad they are popping but still jealous of your finds. I agree with koods. I want to live in Georgia this time of year.

How many ovoids are in this picture?

Too many to count. I filled a backpack from this ten square foot area. Gotta look deep in the grass.

Found first Ovoids on Monday, only two small fresh fellas and yesterday found 6 still fresh and growing!I'm in the northern KY Cincinnati area. I know it's early still but this place flooded bad 2 years ago and it was very slow to produce. I moved and didn't check last year but this year I'm not seeing anything close to first few seasons where we found 500 to 2000 for three seasons in a row. Will a bad flood kill them off or does it just wash them out and into a new area? This is the only wide patch I know of. I also wasn't sure if to help get them spread back out like they were do I let them spore naturally or is their a way to help them be more successful in spreading? Any help would be awesome. Thanks to all and Happy hunting! Will take pics of outing tomorrow as I saw many pins in one spot!

Koods I picked some like that the other day - even the habitat was identical. But there was no bruising on them at all. I saw them and was like holy fuck this is it! but dropped them after I kinked a stipe and didn't see any bruising whatsoever after 10 mins. Maybe I should have grabbed them and spore printed, but everyone says they bruise like a Catholic wife on a Saturday night.
Edit: To your reply on page 45.

Nice colony, koods.
Its wild how far behind that spot is in terms of vegetation growth vs central VA.
The grass, garlic mustard, and nettles were two to four and a half feet tall in the spot I went to today. Was hunting giant debris piles deposited 3 to 5 years ago that are just now getting fully colonized and fruiting well.
Older specimens fruiting on logs covered with vines should have been harvested 4 or 5 days ago. They were a little over grown.

Hiked into last years honey hole and no love. My southern facing patches that popped on the 13th and 14th aren't doing well (some pic's below).
Nights are still to cold.
