It comes in waves
    #26620626 - 04/22/20 05:20 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Anyone else find that the urge to use psychedelics comes in waves?

I can pass 6 months or even a year without thinking about doing psychedelics then suddenly the idea will come to me. I can keep ignoring it but it moves from being an idea, to be a want, to being a burning need that pesters me from the moment I wake. Then when I do it it's fantastic and I want more! Once is never enough. The need for it comes on strong and the desire to push it further and further increases the more I do it.

Then suddenly I'll be satiated again. The "real" world is enough stimulation and everything snaps back into clear focus. And months will pass by...

Anyone else get this?

It always has for me. After some time I feel like I miss the experience, being at a place I could only dream of normally getting to. I also feel like I can read emotions better 'cause usually I'm bad at that, both of those make me miss the experience!

I definitely feel that, I haven’t had a good trip in at least several months but i can feel the urge coming back. It’s not the lack of having mushrooms its just i feel like they get my head where it needs to be then im good for a long while. I think probably once a year theres 2 or 3 months where i love to trip and trip every week or 2 then i take a break.

Interesting isn’t it? Just like a trip that waxes and wanes, so too does desire for it.

Definitely been my experience so far as well.

100% northerner,

Went 11 months from Nov 2018 to Oct 2019 with no desire to trip whatsoever. Then I’ve spent a few months tripping every fortnight, sometimes every week.

I’ve now not tripped effectively for about 2 months. The desire to trip is still very much there, and I don’t think it will go away until I’ve had at least one more successful trip.

It’s not a burning desire like you’d get from an addiction though. It’s definitely a strange “addiction”!

❤️

Absolutely. I try to time my usage around solar events, like solstices, etc. This last one was my best, most intense trip to date.

Yup.  But sometimes its several years in between.  Once it was ten, just walked away from them in the middle of a grow.  And when I went back, it was like no time had passed at all. :yinyang2:

I've forgotten about psychedelics for years at a time too, I think the longest ever was about 5 years.

I wonder if one day they'll just be old hat to me, a thing of the past. It's hard to imagine, but it's also hard to imagine, now, just forgetting about them for years at a time as well.

I notice that tripping gets much easier over the years too, even with big breaks added. Better coping mechanisms of more experience or something. Maybe just less baggage.

Oh, I didn't forget.  I just didn't have the desire for quite a long time.  And then it returned stronger than ever, and I was thinking "Why did I ever quit?"  This is usually what happens.

Yeah well a decade is "quite a long time".

If I get bored I want them more than ever too. Like right now I'm kinda over my career (my 3rd one), and the urge to trip is coming on strong pretty much daily. Just keeping it for weekends is hard, could happily trip far more if I didn't have stuff to do. I need to change up, level up, reinvent myself. Psychedelics always seem to help with that process.

It was a long time, as humans reckon time anyway. :laugh2:  But I was working a lot.  Then the desire suddenly came back, and somebody I knew mentioned this site, so I joined it (in '09) and that really got me started again.  Better than ever actually.

Now its been a few years since any serious tripping and I'm growing a shit-ton of PE for some extensive experimentation this summer.  Fuck Covid I'm going there regardless.  World needs more serious trippers. :awesomenod:

How bout walking away rom mushrooms for 30 years guys? Had other reasons not to trip though I never “forgot” about tripping. I have always been drawn to psychedelics, ever since hitting my first peak on LSD; I remember hitting the peak and thinking; “this is what I’ve been searching for my entire life”.

No, basically I believed the media hysteria and taboo that I’d been brought up with! It was only through desperation, most, with depression getting worse and then taking SSRIs, for 7 years; life never got as bad as it did on SSRIs, ever.

So came off SSRIs after much research, and returned to mushrooms. The first successful trip, with intense come up, and wild anxiety, brought back 30 year old memories. As P.S. and northerner both sid, it was like I’d never been away!

Without Doxxing yourself, what changed in your life that brought you out of depression and all that?

Through almost 4nyears of mushrooms use, I have now learned what makes me tick, how and why I used to get pi55ed off, and what it is I really want out of life. I have also become much more accepting, of myself, of those I love, and of society in general.

I still get fed up, but that’s a whole different story to depression.

My tripping is definitely on and off. I call it “active” and “non active” periods. I may trip in non active periods but not as frequently. Generally, the magic is restored after a good time away. I really only go in there when I feel compelled to do so.
