Fellas here's a quick guide for cutting plastic wrap into small rolls for wrapping dishes (as an alternative to parafilm). Found this technique years ago in an old popular mechanics, also works for cutting plastic containers or scoring glass bottles.
You will need: Roll of plastic wrap Utility knife with a sharp blade (new is great) Book or block as thick as the rolls you want F clamp

Clamp the utility blade to the book securely so it protrudes enough to reach the cardboard core of the roll. Eyeball that it's roughly level to the table you're clamping it to.

Spin the roll up against the book and blade to slice the plastic, if the blade is new it will take close to no pressure. Don't attempt to cut through the cardboard tube yet.

Load the blade back into the knife and use it to carefully make the final cut through the cardboard tube. Go slowly and the already cut plastic will act as a guide to index the cardboard cut correctly.

Using this technique you can take a $3 roll of plastic wrap and have enough tape to go around 1800 standard size petris twice

Hate to nitpick but cellophane is a completely different product entirely than stretch wrap film. It doesn't stretch at all

Looks like a good tek tho. Got to try it out. I don't like fighting the roll with a knife.

That’s a solid method.
I do basically the same thing without the clamp, just locked a new blade in pressed it to the roll and spun the whole roll til it was to the core.
Yours is definitely a little cleaner looking though, mine gets kinda jagged the 1/8 inch closest to the cardboard which didn’t matter til the roll got down to the end then it starts catching if it’s not perfectly straight.

Cool idea. I use a PVC pipe cutter and a piece of pipe. Insert pipe in roll to the desired length and cut.
