Hi all. I was given a print of an active but they didn't know what type. This is my first time growing mushrooms.
Habitat: Print given to me, I grew it on agar then millet then cow dung/verm/coir
Gills: Dark brown. Don't know what attached and the rest means. (Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.)
Stem: Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc. 2" long, 1/3-1/2" dia, white but dark blue quickly after touching. Texture is like a mushroom from the store. Rubbery, grippy. Solid. Thin but it was not a big mushroom.
Cap: Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc. 2" when flexed out, brown. Started dark brown and the lightened to white. They are quite white after a while. Ball shape then flattens out as it opens. Concave (in toward the stem).
The veil peeled off long before the cap stretched out. Whilst the cap was still like a helmet.
Spore print color: Black.
Bruising: Dark blue toward black.
Other information: Smells like a mushroom. It's a weird smell. I don't know how to describe it. Weighed 8.7 grams fresh. Grew it on millet for just over a month. Then took about a month to get to picking stage on cow poop/coir/verm sub The myc was a beautiful pure white color. Fluffy in some places and like strings in others.

Most cubensis varities are impossible to distinguish. You should harvest them right before the cap opens up.

Thank you. Do you mean just as the veil is breaking? Whilst the cap is still a ball?

It's more personal preference than anything, but the general consensus is to harvest them before they open wide and start dropping spores. Otherwise they won't taste as good and you'll get an inky, sporulating mess in your grow container.

I also have some 3-year Cambodian prints to get rid of. DM me if interested
