Sydney mushroom find
    #26618805 - 04/21/20 09:29 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hi,

I was trail running last week and stumbled upon these little guys in a national park in Sydney. They were situated just on the edge of the trail path in a sandy substrate next to a plant. It hadn’t rained in a little while, so was surprised to find them here however the forest is in a little valley and is shaded by the canopy.

Gills are light brown.

Stem: Whiteish with blue stain or bruising just under the gills. 30mm long

Cap: about the size of a 10cent coin. Tan/greyish with light dots on the cap.

I unfortunately didn’t get a spore  print, as the mushroom squished due to not having a proper container to put them in however they have been dried out now.

Bruising:
The stem bruised blue and just under the gills was already very blue without touching it.

I’m interested to see what these are as i didn’t expect to find active mushrooms in that environment.

Looks like a cortinarius species. Possibly poisonous. That purple you see is not bruising.
