Looking healthy?
    #26618266 - 04/21/20 04:55 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hey guys. How is this going? Are these white lines covering the mushrooms a normal sign?

Thanks!

That's bacterial. Let it dry out some and give it plenty of fresh air via more fanning or leaving the lid cracked some. Drying it some might slow down the bacteria and help the mushies grow.

Don't want it too dry tho you just want the substrate drier. Still give the fruits a gentle mist if they need it like once a day or something.

Bacteria and molds thrive in stale air and moisture after all.

Would it help instead of spraying mineral water, hydrogen peroxide 3% or diluted bleach water as hippie3 style to kill bacteria ongoing there?

I'm doing bod shoebox Tek with plastic bags. I think those plastic bags are the reason of the bacteria.. they do have plenty of holes but anyways the bacterial issue is yet there

Drying would probably help yeah. I can't really speak on doing any of that tho however I hear good things about the peroxide as an anti-bacteria asset to mush substrate for like treating peices of sub to get em back onto agar and stuff like that. It might treat it but you can't really cure it at this point by doing that.

Alright. Im gonna let it dry a little bit and then apply H2O2 just a little and see how it evolves

I dont see how its bacterial, other than your sub is completely soaked with water, just let it dry, and only lightly mist so there are little tiny balls of water that glisten on the top. Dont h202 anything itl be more than fine, youll do more harm than good

Yea, indeed it is slimey. I've realized when I let the substrate dry out a little bit, that region didn't get dry. I touched it lightly and it is kind of slippery. Didn't stained the finger though. What could it be?

Lol
Gonna check it closely and see what happens.
One more thing.. this may be a dumb question, but is there any video explaining how to mist properly a shoebox? I swear to God I can't mist correctly. I always leave pools of water and can't help it. I really suck at misting (super dumb affirmation but true)

Squeeze the handle once or twice whilst aiming directly at the shoebox from about 12-18" above it.

I mist 3 shots in the air upward and let the drops fall down onto the sub

Yeah that’s way too wet.

I mist by spraying out over the tub from a few feet above it. You want it to float down to the surface instead of spraying it directly.

Also try adding a top layer of coir to cover the grains next time. It helps a lot.

If you zoom in here this is more how you want the surface/moisture to be at this stage.

Now I don't know your setup but maybe it's helpful to clarify that misting mushrooms is fine PROVIDED the water evaporates through FAE after you've sprayed them. Water that is stagnant or pooling WILL cause aborts and invite contaminants.

A lot of people tell you it is fine to mist mushrooms but they fail to take into account that some people do not provide the adequate amount of FAE for that water to evaporate. In other words, often it is not a good idea to indirectly spray your mushrooms with mist if for example your substrate is saturated and humidity is at 99%, that water won't evaporate.

Water evaporating off the substrate is a main pinning trigger. You want your substrate to dry out a little to achieve this before misting again.
