Grains aren't colonizing under bag filter. PICS

Anyone ever see this? Everything seems ready except the patch just under the filter is not colonizing. I let this bag colonize while laying down like that just as a little experiment. I'm going to cut the top off and fruit it as a cased straight grain cake. Just to see what happens, I like to learn hands -on 👍

Exposing uncolonized grain to open air will cause contamination usually. The only thing I can think of is that it's allot dryer under the patch and dry grain doesn't colonize well.

So what do I do? If it's too dry it never will colonize right? Its been lmike that for a week. Should I put it in fruiting conditions and just cut out the uncolonized section? It can't possibly extend very deep.
P.s. the oats are 100% hydrated.

You could try and cut it out. You could mix but you would have to wait till it colonizes again. How many times have you mixed it up?

Just the once. I suppose it would recover within 3 days right? Then I'd want to give it another week to consolidate before birthing.
There's no downside to an extra shake if your spawn is clean right?

No, nothing wrong with an extra shake if you have clean spawn. If it's healthy, 3 days should do it. I guess if you are leaving it like that and not breaking up for a mono I would let consolidate.

Alright I'll mix it up and lay the bag in its final resting place in the mono. I'm really curious to see how the results compare to regular monos. I know I'll burn through a lot more grain this way but I'm lazy and don't like mixing tubs hahaha

Yea its just dryed out grains. I sometimes get this on the top of grain jars.
The way I see it you have 3 options.
You can mix and let recover. This seems to be the safest method. You may get grains that dont recover under the patch but this will be just because they are dry and it should be safe to use.
Another option is you can scoop out the uncolonized grains before breaking up and spawning.
Lasty you can try your luck by just breaking it up mixing it real good and spawning. I sometimes do this when I have grain jars with a few uncolonized grains on the top and don't see any contamination because of it but that seems a little less risky than with a bag that has a big uncolonized patch.
Its up to you but Id go with the first one.
