Towels always made me cringe too...  Used to use a fewpaper towels saturated with a bleach solution on the bottom but gave that up some time ago and started just using a totally dry SAB and am not regretting it.  In the end...

I'm always a little jealous of those of you with big SABs, I have a small apartment so I use a tiny clear tote bag as my SAB

Works for my small personal grows but a little bit more depth wouldn't hurt! I like the idea of something I can fold away though. Version 2 would probably be in a bigger bag with some metal wiring in the frame so it can support its shape better :crazy2:

Stahp lol. :lolsy:  Never seen that one! Anything not rigid (like a bag-type-thing) will act as a bellowss basically as it compressess and twists and moves, pushing air in and out of the bag.  The idea of a SAB is to keep the air still.  You'd be better off with anything rigid with a viewing hole cut out and covered with a clear kitchen wrap or something.  Heck even in the smallest apartment you can use a 64qt tote (7 bucks) and when not in use you an throw a few things in it and toss it somewhere.  I love thinking outside the box usually so to speak, but you'll want to think INside the box this time.  Not busting your stones- just don't want you to get the short end of the stick.

Trust me I get it and appreciate the wisdom :crazy2: I knew someone would get a kick out of it. I'll probably go with a 25qt when all of this blows over.

Lately I've been trying this because it is larger than my sab with holes.

Wow pretty trick! Looks like a flow hood.
What if you installed a small fan in back with a HEPA filter?

Edit: OMG! My wife sez, IT'S IN THE KITCHEN!  LOL

Hey guys, can you help me understand this:

So I started with ms print-->agar-->hotpour. This plate is the first transfer from that hotpour. It looked totally fine (plain white mycelium for weeks, however, a few days after I had cut a part of the plate inoculate grain jars it started becoming bumpy with small yellow ish droplets in the bumps. And now, one week after, its looking like the picture.

Whats goign on here? Is this actually mycelium or am I growing just mold? or is it signs of bacterial? Please be as detailed as you can and let me know what to do next (throw it out/restart from spores/keep on transfering/etc)

These are metabolites the mycelium produce to fight off a bacterial contamination, as fast as I understand at least.  Let's wait for someone else to comment too but I would continue transferring, that's the point of agar, clean up your culture.

Good luck, you are doing well/learning!

The towel sprayed with soapy water is in a bunch of the SAB technique threads that’s why it’s so common.

The reason people don’t use the tote lid as the bottom is because it’s not solid so it can tilt and stuff will fall over, and also as the lid flexes it sucks air in and out. Same reason you don’t want gloves on your armholes

Idk how much air but it makes sense. I know some people use the lid and do ok.

I was always interested in the towel method because I feel stuff would slide around less and be easy to work with I just don't trust the cleanliness of a towel so I use the bottom of the tub because I don't have a desk and have to work on my bed.

Well it helps with that but the main reason is that it catches all the spores that fall from the air.

I think if you do it right and use a clean towel it could help a lot, but also if you’ve got good SAB technique you could do without it.

I feel like it's harder to clean though and contains alot of spores itself. I might try it one day.

You'll probably be fine to wipe it off, iso the bottle as you normally would, and pour. Personally, making new agar doesn't take a long time so i'd just make some new.

I have used a fresh clean microfiber towel for this and it works pretty well. Lil spritz of soap water in the sab and towel. I don't notice any difference with or without it tbh.

Just wondering guys, I am at the stage of pins starting to form and a small few 1.5 inch shrooms.  I have noticed there is primordial knots also forming everywhere on the substrate.

There I am wondering now how much is too much spraying for the substrate?  I don't want to over do it or under do it.  I am using spitballs Mono Tub method.

Another question is, how long usually is it until you harvest the first flush? It's classic KSSS

Thanks for your help

:-)

Anyone got any suggestions for some wood pellets for doin some edibles/medicinals? Preferably something from Amazon so I can just tack it on the order Im making anyways? Searching there for hardwood pellets or fuel pellets or oak pellets just gives me a bunch of BBQ blends and flavored shit for $40, $50, $60.
