Thinking about buying a tractor 1

So ive been thinking about buying a compact / sub compact tractor. Ive been looking at 23hp kubota with a front loader and the rear digger/ trencher.
My wife wants the belly mower attachment but that adds 3500$ and i feel that would buy a decent zero turn mower. I have about 8-10 acres of yard i mow on our property.
Does anyone have any experience with smaller tractors here?
Ive thought about mahindra brand but havent been to a dealership to see the units in person.
I went to a new holland dealer before all this virus shit and they wanted 26k for the subcompact with loader and digger but the unit seemed like a larger lawn mower then a small tractor.
Im looking at brand new units or low hour units at dealerships and if anyone has any input or suggestions im all ears.

I've used a few of those mini tractors. They do ok, but just aren't really heavy enough to grade or dig, and aren't powerful enough to lift anything substantial.
I'd be opting for a good condition second hand full size unit, or at least the biggest you can afford. The other bonus is most used tractors will come with a hoard of attachments. The rear mouted slashers are way better than the belly mowers, so I'd be getting one of them instead.

Currently i have an old ford 3000 series tractor with a 6 foot wide brush hog and many 3 point attachments. But it has no front loader.
I would look at used units but around here either no one sells them or they are traded in at dealers with more hours then id want for the price difference.

You can buy the front end loader attachment. I put a second hand one on an old Massey years ago.
Don't let me talk you out of it though. The smaller tractor might be perfect for what you're doing. I always found them undersize for the jobs I was trying to do.

Fuck yeah ill sing that song!!!
Ive looked into the front end loader kits for my old ford tractor. The problem is they were never designed to take that much load on the front end. And this tractor is physcially too large and heavy to get through the property in areas i need to move dirt, dig ditches etc.
So ill have my large ford to drag field plows and discs , backblade and 3 point auger Etc. Then a smaller unit i can get into my forest / trails , softer areas on my property.
I always thought of these smaller units as toys until a friends family member got one and i seen first hand what they can do and where they can go.
Ill be able to transport a smaller unit on my trailer and 2500 chevy truck, possibly do some work for friends/ family down the road.
I live on 17.7 acres and might be trying to do the "farm" license thing. The last dealership i went to before this virus shit started was telling me i qualify for a farm license. Could possibly start a self business and use the tractor as a business expense. Anyone know more about this ?

I would definitly reccomend a tractor. If you have the space and want to do things it makes life so easy. Last saturday we used our sub compact to move 60 bags of concrete around and it did not phase me in the least. We bought a Mahindra 20 with a loader and back hoe, auger and a belly mower. I don't use the mower as the turning radius is pretty big. However if the grass gets too big I'll use it. All this said, I'd probibly buy a Koboto if I were to do it again. Way better quality but cost way more too. Enjoy...

Mahindra seems to have done a very good job on the emax 20. Its heavy so it can move some weight. The backhoe digs great but does not lift more than like 200# if that. I had problems with the 3point hitch...The dealer sold me type 1 impliments and this little tractor needs Type 1n so that was a mess but its all good now.
I pulled the rear wheel dealing with the impliments and the hub seemed really cheap and weak like I was going to break something wrenching on it. I have 30 hours on it now and overall I'm satisfied.
Kobota completly makes all their parts though... Mahinda throws parts from all over on their riggs and changes frequently

Thanks man. 200 pounds seems decent for a smaller backhoe, or do you find it lacking?
After watching many videos and reading what people have to say i am going to most likely buying a kubota brand unit. I just wish they made manual transmissions. Most of the ones ive been looking at are hydro stat drive, which i guess is more common on smaller units and easyer to use.

So I’ve got the 25hp L series 4wd kubota with fel and I love it! I thought after constantly using my buddy’s 40hp new holland that this wouldn’t be big enough but it’s perfect for my 15acres. Whether you think you need it or not, get it in 4wd! Don’t get one of those lawn mowers on steroids, you’ll def be disappointed. Get a tractor and get a lawn mower.....or get a finish mower to pull behind the tractor. I’ve used and abused the shit out of mine and it hasn’t let me down yet!

Yeah im for sure getting 4wd. My wife wants a belly mower attachment but I'd rather buy a new zero turn for around the same price.
Do you have any other dealer options added on your unit?
Im looking at the 25hp model, i cant remember what series kubota with a front loader and rear hoe and i have my old big blue ford for pulling work.

The one with belly mower isn’t going to get any work done but cutting grass. I just got the rear remote kit from them today that I’ll be adding myself. Got tired of getting up and down to adjust top link on the box blade and disc harrow so I’m putting hydraulic toplink on. If you’re financing, make sure to just put that on there from dealer, cheaper that way. Kit alone cost me $900. Also get the quick attach bucket, makes it way easier for forks, hay spear and all kinds of other FEL attachments. Also did not do that when I bought it and dropped $1100 on the bucket and quick attach bracket. Now I’ve got a bucket to try and sell. I’ve got the L2501DT, all manual as I’m not too keen on the hydrostatic, I like my shit simple and easy to work on.

Got some good memories of riding a tractor drunk.
Felt like the shining example of my southern heritage.
Ours was a mid size tractor though. As in big enough to tow one of our full grown Angus bull's when they died (of natural causes). Those animals weigh half a ton at least. You can't move them without something to tow them (one of those things people don't think about when they start a farm.)
I do think you're generally better off going with a zero turn mower instead of a little tractor if all you really want to do is cut grass. There's a reason contractors prefer them, even in flat country.
Though if you're already getting a tractor you might as well just get an attachment for it. Why get more stuff to maintain if you don't have to?
Of course the trade off is if the tractor breaks down you can't do a lot of things.
If it were me I would just want one, one solid thing, that would do it all, and shop for reliability. But different strokes and all that.

I stay drinking beer driving/doing tractor work! It didn’t come with a cup holder for looks!! I initially sold one of my boats to buy it, needed that more.....and got way more use out of the tractor....gotta listen to John Denver while you ride though!

I have a shit ton of yard to mow with many softer and swampy areas. I dont to rack up hours on the main tractor for lawn maintance. It currently takes 2.5 hours with two people homeowner rider mowers and one person running a weedwhacker.
