Anyone recognise what this is?

Never seen this before and was hoping someone might be able to identify it...Habitat: found on grass lawn in Melbourne Australia
Kinda a rusty colour. That bunch measures about 150mm across. Individual caps are maybe 10-15mm

Looks like Gymnopilus species to me, but I'm not familiar with the genus so wait for someone more experienced to tell you the exact species.

Thanks! I’ve looked up conflicting info on whether they’re edible or not, and if they are psycho-active. Any feedback?

G.junionus are sometimes psychoactive, but Australian collections seems to be mostly inactive. If they bruise green where you cut them, you've struck gold. They can still be active without any bruising, though. Only way to find out is to try.

I'm not so sure it is a gymnopilus, though. I'm thinking flammula sp.

Flammula usually have a smoother cap .. Those caps look indicative of a gymnopilus sp. Though a gill shot does always help.

Edit: Upon further research I guess there are some Flammula sp. Which have a rougher cap but does have a different look than the Gymnopilus caps which is why I leaned towards them being Gymns

looks like Gymnopilus, close up picture would be helpful, very few active Gymnopilus in Australia.

Took some more pics this morning. They’re still young and really dense so it’s hard to get a photo of the gills, but they are very close in colour to the flesh. Subtle earthy mushroom smell.
