I just bought my first one today, an E.M.F. LED Meter. Im pretty excited to test it out on all my electronics
Anyone own any Research Meters?

I just got my KII EMF meter in the mail. Wow. This thing is too cool! Ive been detecting the EMF of my cell phone, both off and on. While the cell phone is one, it will randomly release EM waves. So cool.
Sooo glad I bought this toy

This is basically a routine ping of the nearest cell towers. All phones do this to ensure connection is still present.
If you have an unshielded speaker, like an old guitar amp, turn it on at high volume and put your phone on top of it. The speaker will buzz every 10-15 minutes because the wires are picking up EM radiation and then it's getting amplified.

That's interesting!
I remember back in the day, when I would get a call, before my phone rang, my car speakers would make this "beep-beep beep-beep" sound over and over. Its interesting to hear the EM interference like that.

So electromagnetic induction is what my KII meter is picking up from all the electrical devices in my room?

Some photos of me using my KII EMF meter on my display screen:

As u can see, the signal is strongerx the closer i get to the middle of the screen. Whats weird is the third sections (left and right of middle) do not have any EMF energy but the edges and center of my curved screen do have EMF emissions.

I'm saying the EMF meter works on the principle of magnetic induction. It's got a coil of wire in it, which is picking up EM radiation as a slight voltage. This is then amplified, measured, and converted into blinking (or not blinking, it appears) lights for you to see.
A speaker does the same thing, because they have big coils in them acting as electromagnets to change electrical impulses into air compression. It just makes buzzing noises instead of flashing lights.
I don't know much about monitors, they get pretty fancy, but they do tend to use LOTS of juice. Your computer monitor has some big capacitors in it. Partly why you always ground a monitor before poking inside it. Some of that juice is probably generating EM fields as it circulates through your monitor.

Huh makes sense. So the screen has capacitors in specific areas of the screen body....how curious.
Just found out my Incand lamp has zero EMF. That was really suprizing.

Below the limit of detection of the instrument is not zero.

A bare speaker won't convert radio waves into audible sound on its own. Power levels are way too low for this and naturally EMR is way outside the audio band. The buzzing tone that you get with older audio equipment is actually EMR picked up by the sensitive pre-amp stages and an interference signal in the audio band is consecutively amplified and then run through the speaker.

Interesting. Im curious to see what my meter does around older speaker systems. I bet the signal is much stronger
The background EMF of the Earth makes it non-zero at vaseline, right Krytpos?

I don't know about the baseline EMF of vaseline, personally, but I'd think you're correct.
Also, koraks is correct. You need an amp to make the speaker buzz, that's why I used a guitar amp in my first example. I apologize for the further inaccuracy.

Good to know.
I took the meter outside this morning around 5-6am. Got nothing. Just the baseline/background. I was hoping for at least a blip.
I also noticed that tue meter reacts to vibration. Something to do with that sensing coil inside. Ive been trying to keep my hand steady and avoid bumling into things.
