Habitat: southern MD, near a stream in the woods, growing from wood and underneath decomposing wood.
Gills: Pictures - realized i didn’t get pics of the gills, they were kind of beat up and deteriorating but seemed like regular mushroom gills...regular being cubes as they're all I really know lol.
Stem: Hollow for the smaller mushrooms, seems solid for the big yellow guy.
Cap: Pic. The yellow mushroom was probably 3-4 inches diam.
Spore print color: purple for the smaller mushrooms, unsure about the big one.
Bruising: Didn’t notice any bruising.
Other information: The smaller mushrooms smelled very similar to cubensis.

Something came back and ate the exposed yellow mushroom before I could check it out further, those two pics are a day apart

Pictures 3-7 remind me of Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata, especially if you say they smell like cubes. I would go back and try to find some fresher specimens and get some more pictures.

If they were ovoids wouldn't they be turning blue with all that damage?

I have been trying to find ovoids in the area but I have never seen them up close and some look so different. I will go back and check on that pin though today since the pic was on Saturday. Maybe it will help. The lack of bruising makes me wonder though.
Does that bigger one look like these Gym I’ve heard about? Laughing gym or something like that. I originally took the pic just because they looked cool but then saw a post about some gyms that looked kind of similar. When I went back to look closer the free mushroom was nowhere to be found and I did not wanna disturb that rotten wood to get at the other bit. Something has eaten what it could get to.

So I went back just now and that pin aborted but I found these two a few inches away. They smell very close to cubes but with a faint sweet kind of smell. Still no bruising at all. I’m getting a spore print from the brown one right now.
