Preparation for 2nd flush?

My first batch have stalled out on size and I think it's time to start my second flush. There are still a lot of smaller mushrooms on it that haven't fully opened their gills. Should I just pick all of these and dry them, then soak the log?

Is there anything else to consider before doing my next flush?

Are the "smaller mushrooms" aborts? It might be helpful to post a picture.

I'm not sure what classifies as an "abort". Could you clarify? Here's a picture. Most of these have been this same size/condition for about three days. I picked a couple that opened up their gills a bit more today.

Those seem like they were choked by moisture. I'd pick all of them and keep misting way down for the next flush.

Interesting. I kept moisture from going above 99% the entire time.

I've read that for the second flush I need to dunk the whole brick for 24 hours in distilled water. Do you think just wetting it down a lot will be good enough to create the second flush?

You shouldn't be sticking to some magic numbers. Your hygrometer won't go above 99% either. Remember that max RH is 100% and at this point, the water starts condensing out of the air.

If your cake feels heavy when you pick it up, I wouldn't even dunk it. Just put it back in and cut down on misting by a lot.

What kind of fruiting setup do you have?
