Nice work Herb! I was waiting for someone to post an Ohio find before I make another 100 mile road trip to the SE ohio spot.

Do you think it's possible to smell them just being in the general area?
Yes you can smell big patches from 30ft away, although sometimes the source of the smell is just the mycelium. Often times I will smell them and start searchjng the area only to find I have been walking on them the whole time
This spot got beat to shit last year a bunch of people pick it. Some pins popping up from whats left. In some of the beds the mycelium completely decomposed all the mulch lol

I am a lot more familiar with Cubensis but to me Ovoids smell same/similar. I could just be not very discerning tho. I just misted down some patches with a hose around the house and just doing that to mycelium creates a distinct mushroom smell.
I noticed after the cold night from a couple days ago some of the mycelium got some blue/green to it. Seems like cubensis mycelium bruises more when and after its fruiting so hopefully that is a good sign its getting ready to fruit. Getting anxious

Is there an official East coast 2020 Agrocybe Hate Thread where this would be more appropriate?

I'm like 99% sure these are positive ID to this thread, but I'd love some more confirmation. This is my first time harvesting.

Wine caps and Agrocybes are popping up now, Jersey can't be more than a week off for Ovoids.

I was out today and no mushrooms whatsoever and our trees look way more behind where I'm at than slightly farther south. I usually always find some type of mushroom before ovoids start popping.

That's what I thought at first, but: No blueing. The stems were fragile. The smell didn't seem right. The gills seemed to light.
If they are ovoids they are nothing like the ones I found nearby last year. Those had a tough stem that turned almost black.
I'll make an ID thread with more pictures.

Nothing else looks like that this time of year in that habitat. They will likely darken over time. You can ignore those in your ID thread.
