Picking in OTHER peoples yard
    #2661288 - 05/10/04 10:15 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I went shrooming for my first time today and the only real place i have is other peoples lawns. I found that it was difficult to pick the shroom without looking like a total sketch ball. Do any of you guys have any techniques you use or should i just be obvious and just pluck it up? Dumb question i know...
peace

I go up to the front door, ring the doorbell, and ask politely if I can pick the mushrooms in their yard. They often have some questions about what they are, so it helps if you can give them courteous, informative answers. If I don't know offhand what they are, I admit it. People respect that you want to look them over in detail to figure out what they are. Another thing that helps is that I give them the spiel about being with the Colorado Mycological Society (I really am). It lends an air of authority to the proceedings.

Happy mushrooming!
