I think it's prudent to assume anyone willing to break in to your home with force is also going to be willing to use force on you.
If even a single person knows about your grow besides yourself, I'd just roll up the grow and clean house because you are one of the first people that is going to come to mind when/if they get desperate. Then buy a gun. And don't tell people your shit in the future. This is important because even if you roll up the grow, anyone that knows you were growing could still come knocking.
If you can't afford to roll up the grow, focus on securing your spot from entry and discovery in the first place. Forget the piece. Get the bat, big can of mace, chain with a padlock, whatever you feel you could defend yourself with. Only do this if you never told anyone about the grow in the first place.
Too many stories about people getting jacked because they couldn't keep their own secrets.
Be safe, OP.

I never thought I would own a gun, but I inherited a few from my mates parents deaths. Couple of shotguns and a 38 special. Haven't shot the shot guns yet, but the 38 is fun. I would have never bought that's for sure. Didn't grow up around them either. I do feel a bit safer having handy in case someone breaks in while we're here. I don't if I'd use it and I hope I don't have to, but I'm pretty sure I would.

Best thing to do if you have them anyway is familiarize yourself with them inside and out.
Get proficient at the range.
It's easier to miss with a pistol than people think if they haven't shot much.
A shotty is more forgiving, but still need to be familiar with it to do you any good.
It's also easy to butterfinger a weapon in a live situation if you aren't intimately familiar with it. So practice, practice, practice.
I'm always happy to hear people have means of protecting themselves.

In my state you can legally shoot someone in a home invasion. However, it isnt advised to shoot to kill. Personally, I'd make them remember the terrible choice they made to try to rob me and take one of their kneecaps.

You'll want to buy some home offensive guns.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Once a gun is involved the police go mental. Like others said get a bat.
In most states you can shoot someone who has broken into your home and never see jail. Maybe you'll get sued In a civil case
If I shoot someone in my house they find weed and shrooms. In Wisconsin both are still illegal. Big deal maybe I get 3-6 months probation because of them worst case. Definitely worth shooting the intruder

People break into your home while you are out at work. Everyone is home now, there has never been a lower rate of residential burgs than right now. The problem is still people thinking that burglar is some guy in a black mask sneaking into your house in the dead of night.

Burglars knock on your door to see if you are home and break in when you don't answer. No-one has knocked on my door in weeks, there is no reason to now. Get a dog not a gun.

I’ve always heard that there are less potential legal issues if you kill someone after brandishing your weapon but I don’t know if that applies more to concealed carry in public areas.

I’d rather not take my chances in court around here. My brother is facing charges for a crime he didn’t commit and he’s been in jail since before December without bail. The prosecutor keeps adding bullshit charges and the judge despite having no evidence chooses to listen to them saying things like “when new charges are brought up against someone there’s a minimum 10 day jail sentence” which is not true for 90%+ of the people catching charges. Shits so bad he can barely meet with his lawyer.

I know it’s usually the exception but I’ve heard and seen plenty of stories of people having to face down home intruders.I have a dog but she’s more of the lazy variety, she’d probably be excited someone came to visit lol.
