could i fruit these? should i? * 1
    #26610386 - 04/18/20 12:18 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

It's my first time trying bulk sub

I used coir, gypsum and a very small amount of coffee grounds
About 1:3-1:4 ratio (i was feeling kind of cocky when i spawned)
I also think I might have used a bit too much water

I let them colonize for 12 days
Opened them today and they look pretty nasty but I'd really like to harvest at least a few mushrooms

Should I fruit these? Or toss them asap?

First two are already fruiting. I see knots. I say hell yeah! I don't see anything wrong in those pictures.

I can't see any nasties either. There should be pins in all those tubs in a few days.

It's really great hearing that, I was pretty sure they're fucked

are those little white dots what hyphal knots are?

I have 4 more of these mini tubs which should be ready very soon (without coffee and with slightly less water this time)
I'll post pics of those as well when I open them

Hey guys
I opened those other 4 tubs I was talking about

I let these colonize for 14 days because the grains they were spawned from took longer than the previous tubs
Used slightly less water and no coffee

The third one seems to have some little slimy yellow spots, not sure if you can see from the pic
I sniffed all of them and they smell aight to me

What do you think?
How are they looking?

They don't look bad and that third one is starting to knott so yeah definitely
time to fruit. I think they'll work out nicely.

the first four have a decent number of little mushrooms on them and the other just recently started pinning

I'm about to harvest one of the first tubs and I have some questions
This is how the tub looks right now

I'm gonna harvest only the big ones and I'll probably let the little grow
But I don't know what to do about this little guy

I'm worried about that black coloring on the stem
Should I just pick it as well or let it grow?
And if I pick it now do you think it should be ok to eat?
That blackness really scares me

They came along nicely for only 8 days.
Cut the big ones near the base if their veils are tearing.
The little guy is just a little bruised, it happens, he may abort.
I'd let him ride for another day if he doesn't get bigger cut him
and dry him. He'll be fine to eat.

Your surfaces look a little blue be sure to keep that humidity high
as you can spray walls of the fruiting chamber keep it all wet in there
but only keep little beads of moisture on the actual surface of your substrate
there. Check misting & fae 👇 if ya haven't seen the page before.

Looks like an abort to me.

thanks for the feedback
I left it overnight and it didn't grow at all so i picked it

edit:
i'm trying to provide proper fae and moisture
but they get very dry during night time and i think i sometimes mist too much

my fc is a big cardboard box with bubblewrap "liner" which i duct taped to the box and some holes in it
definitely not ideal but better than nothing i suppose

Yeah the fc is going to be the variable there making it difficult.
Shotgun fruiting chambers(sgfc) are a pain to build but would be easier
to maintain. If you're into agar making a clone at this point would be
good. Then you can get into working with grains/seeds and doing monotubs
or shoeboxes or something.

Yeah the surface looked great in the early pics but got way too dry, try less air on the next ones.

You can usually tell if a little one is aborted by the color.

I'll probably make a sgfc in about a month because right now i'm a bit short on cash

I took 12 live tissue transfers from that first harvest and I might take some more soon

I have another question and I'd rather post here than make a new thread
Mushrooms started piling up and I might need to store some of them for a few months

I dried them best as I could and they are close to being cracker dry but not quite (they're still flimsy and bendable)
Getting or building a dehumidifier is not really an option at the moment (again, a bit short on money atm)
Could I keep the almost cracker dry mushrooms in the freezer?

I understand that with fresh mushrooms they turn to mush after being frozen. Will the same happen to pretty dry ones?
And will this method of storing affect potency?

Should be way better than keeping them out in the open.
