The ideal incubation temperature is 86 degrees F. So, it is too cold to be ideal. You probably still will get growth, but it will be slower than desired.

As for your other question. You may want to put tape over the innoculation holes, or a filter like polyfil or tyvek. The aluminum foil won't create a seal, thus allowing contamination possibilities.

ditch the heating pad... the danger of overheating them especially in warm weather, far outweighs any benefit... they are just fine at room temp, a lot of people ignore the fact that the mycelium generates its own heat, so keeping them at 86 will get way too hot... 70 - 80 is just fine, if its cooler than that put your heating pad in the same closet with thw jars, but not close enough for the pad to heat the jars, you only want to heat the air around the jars... leave the foils on and don't unscrew the lids... they get plenty enough ventilation through the drilled holes even with the foil on.... put them in a closed space like a closet or a box

I just reread your post, a drawer at 76 is absolutely perfect without a heating pad...

they colonize just fine int he 70s. Just slightly slower. Using heating pad can be dangerous as mentioned above.
