I was under the impression that dryer is better. Is it possible to dry your oats too much before transferring agar wedges? I have a feeling I dried the oats too much and it’s slowing or inhibiting mycelial growth almost completely. Any thoughts? Thank you Shroomery.

Also have jars that I used a fan to dry oats and they seem to be going significantly slower then jars I made before utilizing fan for drying.

I mean if you hydrate and then dehydrate them before loading in the PC. Yes, I think your happy bag might be a little moist for my taste.

No need to wait two days before loading your oats. I just air dry for about two hours on cookie sheets/paper towels.
That last pic looks fine to me

I don’t normally, I just got busy with other aspects of life. I’ll reduce my drying time ton~12 hours, I was going about 24.

Can drains get too dry after the initial hydration?

Not sure as I've never dried longer than 2 hours. I would guess they should be fine. Hydrated oats seem to hold their moisture pretty well. I think even 12-24 hours seems excessive, but that's just me.

Yeah I wouldn't dry over 2 hrs to be more clear. If you bring them up to temp and lay them out flat, the should steam dry on the outside of the kernel.

If I dried for two days under a fan my oats would be completely dry, as if I hadn’t of hydrated them in the first place. I find 45 minutes to an hour is fine for oats in my situation, but if i get busy i let them sit a few hours longer with no issues

In Bod's oat prep Tek he says
Quote:
I personally find that drier grains perform way better than anything too wet. I sometimes prepare lots of grain a day ahead of time let it dry in the colander for a few hours then put it in the fridge overnight. It almost seems too dry, you can't get it too dry. If I have the time I vastly prefer to make the grain on the dry side.
Could be misinterpreted as "dry the fuck out of your oats"
