That’s why I came back.

Covid basically shut down my work place and  university for the foreseeable future (rest of the year as of now)

Now I’m free of much responsibility, and locked down for quarantine with a batch of fungi I grew almost a year ago but never had a chance to take under the right conditions.

Getting ready for an epic psychedelic trip and getting involved in the forum and it’s community again.

Good to be back, things are a bit different, but it’s always been what we make it.

I think the main reason is people age and their personalities change over time. Thats what happened to Crystal_G

Crystal's story in particular stands out -- remember her stories? Waking up in crack dens? Shooting speed balls? Her sex-capades? Meeting up with fellow members? She was really political too -- I remember her even labeling herself as a far left liberal.

Then her last post:

I haven't posted on these forums in a while because I don't have anymore interesting stories. I live a pretty boring life now. I'm just working. I run my own business in the legal field now, and I've been making pretty good money. Been sober almost 4 or 5 years now. I can't even remember exactly when I got sober; it was so long ago. Strangely, the longer I've been sober, the more conservative my political views have gotten. Weird how that happens. I'm like a typical fucking square now. Nobody would even recognize me anymore.

Sorry to disappoint, but I think Crystal G's saga might officially be over. That's what happens when you get old. I'm in my mid 30s now, so it's time to throw in the towel. Time to give the jig up. It's cute when you're young, but if you're still in your 40s doing this shit, it gets pretty pathetic. Want to thank you guys for thinking of me though. Makes me feel loved. If anybody wants to connect, PM me or reply to this thread. Thanks.

I mean if her story isn't the biggest 180 degree turn in board history I don't know what would be. She went from waking up in crack dens and shooting speed balls to 5 years sober. Went from meeting up with shroomerites in person (and posting pics) to disappearing from the board completely. Went from far left liberal to conservative. Pretty wild reversal. Good for her though -- sounds like she is doing great in her career that she has settled into.

But when I think of old member who just disappeared -- I always remember this one dude. His name here was "dehoefasho". I doubt many (if any) even remember him. He wasn't a huge poster or presence here. Not even close. But he was around when I first started posting a lot. Guy was super cool. We PM'd regularly and he helped teach me (immensely) a lot as far as cultivating went. I was a complete rookie and he gave me some priceless tips and advice, and to this day I still credit him as the guy who pushed me over the top when it finally came to my tubs fruiting. I was having major issues getting them to just start pinning but he took his time out to give me some really detailed advice, and then voila -- they started pinning.

He was over in California...I wanna say Santa Barbara. We kept in touch for a while and then one day he messaged me and said he was leaving here forever and starting a new life as a church missionary. Wished me the best of luck. Said he was done with psychedelics. That he got everything he needed to get out of them and was onto the next chapter of his life. And poof, he really never posted again after that. That was back in like...2013?

One day the guy was giving me advice on growing psychedelic mushrooms, and the next he was off to leave the country as a missionary. And when he said he was leaving the shroomery he sure meant it because if I recall correctly he never posted again. Not even once.

Crystal G's stories is really unique in that aspect. Total turn-around. Coaster had a similar experience, he went from HD pics of drugz, raving on Molly, Acid and Ketamine to quiting them all and pursuing a career in teaching.

Just sucks people have to change that much and leave the Shroomery behind. Its like all or nothing. One extreme to the next. I find it frustrating and makes life feel a little too Chaotic :nonono:

A happy medium is a terribly elusive and precarious thing for a lot of folks . I'm happy to see Crystal is doing okay though, I remember her stories of doing a bunch of PCP and waking up in random alleys in North Philadelphia, with random concerned people finding her and trying to help her and stuff. I almost met up with her at one point, but I had just started getting really busy with a career switch and it just didn't manifest. I'm really glad to see that she dug herself out of that, because that's a really, really dangerous(and sadly, a really devastatingly common one in the area I'm pretty sure she was talking about) lifestyle and she might've saved herself from a really ugly fate.

Yes it's a little depressing when members who were such big contributors and whom had big presences on the board just move on forever.

Yeah I remember that. Some of her stories...they were incredibly vivid in detail and they easily ventured deep into very sketchy territory. And it is indeed great to hear that she didn't end up a casualty.

Yeah, i guess its a mixed blessing. Its great that they got out of the lifestyle to better themselves but its always sad for me to see someone leave the Shroomery who was such a big part in the past.

Bitter sweet ending really....

I used to LIVE in the Pub.  I remember a time where threads moved so fast it was practically a chatroom.  I'd crack beer, sign in, and just post all night on the boards.  It was like a nightly ritual.  Then things got complicated with my life and I just bailed for a good 7 years or so.

Cultivation is what brought me back.  I had a sudden urge to grow again and experience mushrooms for the first time in a decade and I was excited to come back.  Gumby actually convinced me to just sign back in as Newbie again and I'm glad I did.  It's definitely not the same anymore and I'd be naive to expect it to be, but I'm glad to be present in the community again and to get more active welcoming new members to at least try to give it that same charm it had for me so many years ago.

No one thinks the old-timer exodus has anything to do with the PC-fying of the Pube & the Pube-adjacent boards?

This used to be a 100% safe space. A place where you could make a racist joke without having to defend yourself. A place where you weren’t judged by that drunken rant you went on that one time those several times. A place where trashy-ness was seen for the virtue that it is!!!

Not saying it’s a Shroomery-only problem, but I think many people need an escape from the compulsory self-censoring we now have to do online. And this place has forsaken its potential for fulfilling that need.

Theres still a few good ole fashion racist/sexist/homophobic/blasphemist/triggering emoticons to troll the PC crowd with tho.

Yep I've remembered you from the very beginning of my time here, Newbie. I started lurking pretty heavily in like 06' due to my fascination with trip reports and then subsequently cultivating. Then I finally registered in 08'. Pretty sure you answered some grow questions along the way for me too. Good to see you back and active.

Ah yes I remember when the pub was like that. I signed on here last night and it blew my mind how slow the other drug section is. The pub has a bit more traffic but it really did used to move like a chat room.

When I think of old members from my time here, I think about you (at least I think it was you). That was back when I was within my first year or 2 of real addiction, and I always remember the guy who posted pictures of his bunnies all the time and had an insane opiate tolerance that I thought was bullshit til years later when mine was got close to that

Hahhahahahha yes that was most definitely me. I've been sober since 2013, but I just started growing weed again. I am in a legal state, and I could use some extra money. I don't think i'll partake. Every time I've smoked weed and broke sobriety in the past I would end up doing heroin and oxy again. I worked in treatment for 3 years and the amount of people who have died from fent overdoses has me wayyyy too scarred to take that risk again. I assume you got off the opiates?

Yea I remember you were trying to get clean, fucking stellar having 7 years under your belt, thats epic!

I dropped the heroin right as the fent was starting to make its way into my area, had a few ODs in a couple short months from that first waves. I ended up moving over to poppy seed tea for like 6 or 7 years until last year when I went to sub maintenance. Been doin that steady.

Thats for sure. I left the hustle and ripping/running, compulsive part of addiction long ago. All those years on seeds and now maintenance, it just became "medicine", just something I take and move on with my day.

I never came to the shroomery as a real participant until I sorted my shit out and dropped all the heavy drugs. I signed up in 02 to learn to grow, grew one flush and promptly went back to my methcathinone, cocaine and ghb lifestyle. Fast forward 10 years and I was good for psychedelics again. No more silly games, not sleeping 3 nights out of 7 for months on end, no more hoovering up endless lines of powders.

Now I'm in my 40s, professional career, house on the hill and all the stuff. But I still like tripping, it's not going away. I still like dance music and crazy people and psychedelic art and have a distinct distrust and cynicism for the systems we live in. The shroomery is a break in that system. A chink in the army of the swarms of sheeple and capitalist fools.

Without this place I'd struggle to find real people. Would be so much more alone in the world.

Most people will fall for the illusion eventually though. They will sell their souls to the system for the illusion of wealth, forget what true beauty is, join Facebook, stop coming to the shroomery.
