How to fix sterilized casing layer?
    #26609590 - 04/18/20 04:42 AM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Just like the title says...

I’m using Jiffy Mix to case some pan cyans and accidentally overheated it to ~180-190F for well over an hour and ended up with trich after getting a small flush of some decent fruits.

I have minimal Jiffy Mix left and figured I would mix the untreated material with the overheated/sterilized material to reintroduce the beneficial bacteria, but the ratio of untreated to treated material was like 30:1 (treated:untreated) so I’m afraid it won’t work.

Does anyone know an alternative method for fixing this issue? Could I maybe add some coir to the mix? Perhaps leave a couple jars of the treated casing material outside for a day or two?

Please let me know because I got some spawn that’s ready to fruit ASAP.

Thanks in advance!

hmm, interesting. I'm not sure how you would go about re-introducing beneficial bacteria into your mix.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "jiffy mix" just loose coir?

According to the Ferry Morse website it’s “enhanced peat moss, vermiculite, and lime.”
