attract better members. this continues to make me retch and lol at the same time.
we could work with what we have?
as another poster mentioned, you have to have fairly thick skin or minimal ego to romp here. i guess we could try being really nice to everyone?

I like the multi language apsect. Even as a effort to learn more languages for myself. But any auto translate will certainly be a challenge. It's a hard ask to expect mods or admins to keep up with it. Maybe everyone could help. More user based translating.
You're right aroundtheson, thick skinned will help. In most situations in life but certainly on a forum.

All the suggestions here suck. Not sure what I expected, oh well. I guess we'll just continue to be flooded by shitty noobs.

Didn't John Lennon say something like that? Was a bit more specific about world peace and stuff, but basically breaks down to the same thing.

Shitty new members tend to get banned sooner than later. I think it's more of a retention problem with the good new members.

Yeah, some people are quick to fire albinos at noobs and they run away before having the chance to realise that ratings change and don't really mean much anyway. Seen a few good ones leave because of assholes being quick to ratings fuck noobs, sometimes even in jest. The people coming in just don't get it yet and get scared off before toughening up.

Get into mushroom groups on social media and let them know about the shroomery. I love this place. I am not usually in the Pub but I am ALWAYS lurking the identification side.

Yeah I came here after reading a post on Reddit so I can agree with the social media thought.
Someone also mentioned hiding the join date. Although not a dealbreaker for me, I think the idea is worth some thought. I would imagine most of the valued regulars are familiar with who’s been here for a while, who contributes and who the trolls are. So I wonder what purpose does the join date serve, other than to separate new from old? I just looked at two other forums I’ve been on since 2007. The one that doesn’t show it, is still going strong, whereas the other one is not what it once was (based on post count and active members) and has steadily declined.
Also, people that want to integrate generally settle in and feel welcome. People with underlying personality flaws and agendas often struggle to fit in and move on or are pushed out. I don’t think there’s a silver bullet for this topic, too many human variables but age and location would play their part too. As a non-USA member and pushing late 40’s, I had a general idea of what I was walking into here, why I’m here and how I can contribute as an outsider. I would guess some members may not and, this could influence the length of stay and the quality of membership over time. I don’t think these factors can ever be changed or influenced though, well not without specific control measures.

I am against hiding reg date for one reason only: NAME CHANGES. I'm sure there are lots of people here who have changed their names and it confuses the hell out of me and the reg date kinda helps me figure out who is who lol

IMO a lot of it comes down to making people feel welcome. Drop a good rating if they're contributing, engage them in threads, +1 their good posts. I think sometimes newer members get ignored at first, especially if they don't have an avatar and stuff set up yet.
Maybe even a quick new member guide on how to get around here would help. I didn't even know about stuff like ratings and +1's for years after I started posting .
I also think having 750 different subforums is a little intimidating to a newbie, this place could be a lot more simplified which could boost activity all around. Many threads I'd make here already have another sub, but I'd rather not put in the effort for like 16 views and one response a month later

Those are good points, I really like the idea of a noob guide for the site and I think I will try to engage more and rate newer members now

My suggestion in another thread like this was a wiki for both topical info and site lore. JSB mentioned at the time that he has set up lots of wikis, and he is already a mod of the site.
