Able to tell if this is Ps. Cyan or cubensis mycelium on sawdust?

Hello all! I was gifted some spores from a friend who claims they are ps. cyan, possibly a ps. cyan/cubensis hybrid, which i'm assuming is some BS a friend of his told him.
i cleaned up a culture and have it on grain and sawdust. I have never grown Ps. cyan, but the growth is very tomentose on grain. The streak plates are a month and a half old and are pinning, which i haven't found any pics of ps. cyan pinning on agar so readily on the forums. Is that a clear sign this is cubensis, not ps cyan?
I know the pic isn't great, but can anyone tell if this mycelium on sawdust appears to be cyan or cubensis?

AFAIK different types of cubes will combine to colonize the same substrate and at times will produce crossbreeds. Cyans and cubes will not combine and will fight cubensis mycelium when put on the same substrate

It’ll be easier to tell with a pic of the plate myc, especially if there’s pins.
If the pins get bigger than like 1/4 inch they’re prob cubes based on my extremely limited pan experience.
I’ve had them pin on plates but they were super tiny and aborted. Cube pins happen all the time and will get like six inches long sometimes.

I've heard similar things. That while it may be possible for 2 species of the same genus to cross, it's very unlikely. Quote:

By pan experience do you mean panaeolus? Because i'm talking about psilocybe cyanascens

Ah yes I was lol.
I wonder if cube myc would even grow on sawdust?
Your friend just had the spores but hasn’t grown them?? Kinda cool having a mystery culture.

lol yeah I’ve done that many a time.
So I guess that answers the question. If cubes won’t grow on wood it must be cyan right.
Nope just reread it and there’s grain lol.
Idk shit about cyan but those pins look cubey to me.

RogerRabbit said: Here's a switch for ya. This substrate block started out spawned with Sparassis crispa, the cauliflower mushroom. The substrate is birch dowels, hardwood chips and Douglas fir sawdust. After the first flush of cauliflower mushrooms, I noticed a white, rhizomorphic mycelium taking over the Sparassis crispa mycelium, which is a light green in color. After a couple of weeks, it began to fruit. Bear in mind, there is no compost, manure, coir, hemp, or anything else that cubes 'like' in this substrate block, but they were able to choke out the woodlover fungus and steal the hardwood block for themselves. Redboy strain. The moral of the story. . .Watch your spore drops and protect your other species from accidental contamination. RR
Definitely not a good way to grow them, but they appear to at least colonize and fruit off certain sawdust/wood.

Actually the spores came from some cultivated dried caps, and i haven't found any good pictures of dried ps. cyanescens to compare them to.

Wow those cubes are pinning like crazy on that block. I wonder if they ate the first species and that’s why they came after.
I’m sure somebody can throw up some good pics of dry caps to compare.
I think Asuras got a whole thread about them with bag fulls at the end.

Again, i think Asura only has posts about Panaeolus Cyan, not Psilocybe Cyan.

If it's between those species (Psilocybe cubensis and Psilocybe cyanescens) and it's pinning on agar, it's very likely Psilocybe cubensis.

That's my assumption, i'm hoping someone whom is familiar with what they each look like on sawdust will chime in.
But i've already spawned one bag of grain to coir, so if it's cubensis we should know in a couple weeks.

Fruits:
A few of the mature fruits have wavy caps, but it seems like it's just cubensis with a wavy morphology?
