Where In The World Are You? (General Area)

They Look To Be A Panaeolus Sp, Possibly Pan. Cinctulus (Active), But Could Also Be Some Other Non Active Panaeolus Sp.

It's definitely not cint... Stem doesn't look right.

I'd Say It's Panaeolus Cinctulus, That Spore Print Looks Jet Black To Me, & I Don't Think It's Pan. Olivaceus.

Wait For A Trusted Identifier To Chime In.

Cints have a more brownish stem with white hairs and not the smooth white stem this pan has... It's a black spore dropping panx but it's not a cint.

This not Panaeolus cinctulus or foenisecii but something special, Please don't eat it but contact Alan Rockefeller and see if he is interested in studying your specimen.

If, Alan isn't interested I am, please dry it thoroughly and preserve for science. Please contact me if Alan doesn't respond or isn't interested. I would like to sequence your specimen to see what it is, Panaeolus chlorocystis comes to mind but I would have to analyze it to accurately identify to species level.

I Was Thinking Pan. Olivaceus As Well, But Olivaceus Gills Have A Whitish Edge That Remains As The Gills Darken With Age.

That Is What The Shroomery & Wiki States Anyway.

If they are bluing as heavy as it looks in the 1st pictures posted I don't think they are Cinctulus, never seen or heard of them bruising like that.

Alan Rockefeller has been studying active Panaeolus in grass and has the ability to sequence them,  definitely save at least 2 for study so we can see what you have for sure,  I could be wrong about them being cinctulus but I don't think so with the amount of blue bruising, cinctulus usually has basal bluing of the mycelium on the stem base but these are bluing where handled.

Those don't look like cinctulus in that thread, those are something else, that's woodchips on the base so they are ovoidiocystidiata or something similar but they are NOT Panaeolus cinctulus.

edit: I reviewed the entire thread and I am not convinced that they are cinctulus,  yes, I saw the pictures of some cinctulus posted from the same pile but that doesn't mean that only cinctulus are growing from it, to bad no one thought to look into it more. my first impression of them was Panaeolus cyanescens but the location is definitely wrong for them.

I wouldn't even have guessed cinctulus on those, but it seems like everyone in that thread agrees on it.

not everyone,  in situ photos would have been nice with the original post, However,  what's in this thread is in a different substrate  all together and Alan has been looking at dung dwelling cinctulus versus grass dwelling,  he believes that they are 2 different species.

The only ones that seem likely to be cint in that thread is this one:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22208025#22208025

As well as maybe the 1st and 3rd picture in the second set of pictures from the original poster. Maybe the original poster found bisporus and a few cints.

Again if the description of the stem is checked it states a more brownish stem with little white hair texture. I highly doubt they're all cints or the ones this person found.

Edit: The one I linked too also might not be a cint and just discolored from bruising or whatever... The quality is low and hard to tell

Interesting. This mushroom does look like a cinctulus, though. Apart from the bluing.

Hi.. Thanks again for all the feedback.  I went out and collected a larger sample size hoping it might help the identification.

I found them spread throughout the yard, however mostly concentrated in the lower lying areas prone to flooding.

Im picking them within 6-8 days of growth because thats the cycle the lawnmowers are on.  So not sure if Im allowing them to mature?

Is there any other information I can provide?

Thank you
