I saw a fucking bed bug at work
    #26606156 - 04/16/20 04:29 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

In the fuckin restroom. On the damn wall. And it was 100% a bed bug. I know exactly what they look like because my former neighbor was an exterminator and I used to talk with him and I know probably a lot more about bed bugs than the average.

I shoulda fucking kept the little fuck alive and put his ass in a zip lock bag so I could show him to someone at the building. Instead my dumb ass killed him and then flushed him out of instinct.

This little fucker was on the first floor. Probably like, idk, 30 feet from my desk. And these little sons of bitches don't come out during the day (they're nocturnal) unless there's probably an infestation. And usually they pretty much solely live in like couches...beds obviously...chairs. Shit like that where humans will attach themselves to for long periods. You know, so those assholes can feed.

What the fuck was one doing in the restroom??

Anyway I'm worried now. I'm paranoid as fuck because I take my backpack in there everyday. I searched my bag inside out just now but still. Fuck. I've worked at this building for a couple of years now and this is the first time I've seen one. In fact this is the first time I've seen one anywhere.

Right after my encounter I googled "bugs that look like bed bugs" and bat bugs came up first.

But bat bugs only live near bats...so unless our building has bats then that would rule bat bugs out.

Any chance it was a pubic crab?

Or was it definitely a bed bug?

Had bed bugs a long time ago. Had to toss all the furniture and move the fuck out. Apartment complex I was at couldn't gain control of them.

Nope, it wasn't a pube crab or a tick, it was 1 billion percent that pic I posted up above. I know some of these things look similar and they're small but I am so sure I would testify this in the mf'n supreme court

I stayed over night in a place that had them. I woke up with hundreds of bites all over my body. I had to get steroid treatment from a dermatologist. It was 5x as itchy as a mosquito bite, but everywhere.

they are vile little vampires who exist to feed off your blood

They prey on us. Those bed bugs at that place that had them where you stayed, as soon as you passed out they were marching in a beeline right to you. They assuredly lived right under the mattress or in the bed frame.

By the way bed bug hitman is a highly underrated gig, as far as pay goes anyway, that neighbor of mine did both the spray treatment and the renowned and much more expensive (and deadly) heat treatment. Dude his heat treatment would run like $1,200 bucks and that was for a small place.

But yeah anyway he told me stories about infestations so bad that they were falling from the ceiling at some places.

Yikes.

He showed me this one video of a infestation in...I think it was NY. That video would give you nightmares. Let me see if I can find it.

Listen to me, listen to me good, and listen to me now.

Burn the whole place to the ground.

When I was around 18/19 I lived in an absolute shit hole of a row home in North Philly because I wanted to feel independent and moved out on a whim. The washing machine would only work if the bathroom light was on, the wiring was fucked, everything was fucked, I didn't have a lease, I moved in with friend's from highschool who were the only people I knew in town at that time. Our neighbors who we shared a wall with had bedbugs, and I cannot begin to describe the nightmare that was the 3 months I spent in that place. I was an intern that summer, and was trying to figure out whether to buy toothpaste or food. We had no AC to speak of and it was 100 degrees and humid as fuck that summer, even at night. I couldn't afford curtains or blinds. There was a nursing home right behind me and I just remember laying in bed buck naked, not giving any shits about giving the neighbors, the old folks, or the cameras at the nursing home that were pointed directly at our windows a show, because it was so hot and miserable. We also sprayed poison fucking everywhere, sprinkled powder everywhere, moved furniture away from the wall. And this was life.

Those fuckers still got in and were the icing on top of the shittiest cake imagineable. I left my bed and moved the fuck out. Washed all my fabrics on the hottest setting possible, and luckily escaped them. But I still have flashbacks to that place. I remember my roommate saw a nice looking table on the curb a few years back and wanted to take it and I flipped shit and absolutely forbid it. They can also jump from other people's clothing to yours - so riding public transportation for me is always an exercise in paranoia. But I've never had issues with them again.

Burn it down.

Or maybe demand a fucking exterminator.

Though I think they can only really be killed with heat.

In the meantime there are some mitigation efforts you can take, but they involve stripping down outside, putting all your shit in bags, and washing them on hot.

I don't know what I was thinking -- I could've easily got that one today. Now I don't have any proof. If I go tell the building they're not going to do anything without visual proof of it.

But shit even then...it's a massive building. 5 floors and very, very wide. There's no way they pay to work the whole building trying to get them.

Anyway here's the video I mentioned

:justfuck:

The first thing I did was flip over my chair at my desk and try to look for some. I didn't see any but those fuckers can hide with the best of them. The bed bug guy neighbor would tell me that bed bugs will even live in electrical outlets

Yup. They crawled in through the electrical outlets on the walls, and maybe some other cracks, but the initial ones came through the outlets, I think.

Really though there has to be some kind of law in place that mandates that your employer hire an exterminator. I would do some google fu if I were you. Next time you see one bag it so you can show it to your employer.

Will do. One plus is I'm in pretty good with the building guy. He's management level too so he can do some thangz. I think he'll believe me if I'm adamant, and I am adamant beyond reasonable doubt that's what it was.

I'm not sure I can burn down the building without suffering some sort of consequence tho

Now I am not 100% sure on this and will do some research but I think some might frown upon such an action

Which may also involve potential legal ramifications

Godspeed. All's not lost. I've come into contact with people with known bed bug infestations and even crashed at houses with them that I was later told had them, and I never brought 'em home, myself.

Everyday you come home from work, strip as soon as you get into your place and put your stuff in a bag or immediately into the wash if possible. Good luck!

Bed bugs are literally satan embodied.  Burn it with fire and call a priest.  Burn sage, and then nuke the place and wait 10,000 years before moving back - if ever.  Every time I’ve moved into a new place I’ve checked everything like a meth head on a serious binge before ever signing the lease because if there’s even one bed bug I am nopeing the fuck out and calling the CDC.  Fuck them and their spawn of evil.  God makes mistakes. And the reason why no one hears from him anymore is because he’s fucking ashamed of the bed bug and went into hiding .

FUCK dude, I wouldnt even go back to work. Fuck that job. Id rather look for a new job than deal with a bedbug infestation.

I know more about bedbegs than the average person too, because my sisters scummy ass boyfriend brought them into the apartment we shared and we got infested. The fucked thing is, you wont even realize you have them until youre almost over run by them. By the time you start seeing them out in the open daylight, its too late, theyll be everywhere.

We tried to get rid of them a bunch of ways. Exterminator failed, all the home remedies failed, the only thing that finally worked was throwing away all furniture with cloth (beds, couches, chairs, rugs, etc.), wiping everything else down with iso alcohol and immediately taking it out of the house, washing/drying every piece of clothing and immediately getting it out, and then moving to a new place.

this is no laughing matter, Paw.

i went for a hike yesterday and sat next to a river to eat my sangwich.  As i got up to head back i noticed a tick on my arm, then a found a few more on my sweatpants and backpack.  This freaked me the fuck out because of the prevalence of lyme disease in Ct and had me all like :tweak:  When i got back home i researched it a bit and it turns out there's supposed to be a big increase in the tick population in the northeast because of the mild winter (i've never found a tick on me after many years hiking this area until now).

i get angry and sad any time they are brought up.

those little things are the fucking devil.  and the ones that we are dealing with today were likely engineered by evil people on plum island.

Not to mention the Giant Asian Killer Hornets that showed up in the US the same time as Covid.

It’s like humanity got a grip on all the big critters of the world, so the tiny ones are now fucking us up.

Looks like we’re in for a future that looks like Starship Troopers / Blue Gender.

Insects live in a world that we can’t quite get on the same wavelength any more in terms of sensing the world like they do, like we evolved or developed out of it.  Back in the early hominid days maybe... if ya know what I mean.  Like a primal world of mud and guts  and green plants and crazy alien bugs doing gods work without question.  Crazy mutant mystical bugs.

By the way bed bug hitman is a highly underrated gig, as far as pay goes anyway, that neighbor of mine did both the spray treatment and the renowned and much more expensive (and deadly) heat treatment. Dude his heat treatment would run like $1,200 bucks and that was for a small place.

Long term exposure to that poison can't be good for you. My building is paranoid about them and i always chat with the bug guy on the yearly inspection. They used to use DDT and almost wiped them out but that shit was terrible for the environment and they banned it and nothing is as effective. The bug guy will always have a job, they found bed bug carcasses in the tombs of the pharaohs they have always been sucking off us

Yeah, I noticed that since a few more things were banned in the last 5ish years, that the rat problem got worse.

At my old place(not the one I mentioned here, another one that had it's fair share of other problems) I used to hear the rats literally shrieking in the courtyard my apartment faced at night.

As crazy as it sounds I would trade it off for a ban on the really harmful stuff. I've listened to too much Joni Mitchell. But then again, they never made it inside, I just had to dodge them (and the cockroaches that would crawl up out of the sewer on warm nights) while taking the trash out.

I have a friend that experienced satori after being bitten by a flea in a shoddy infested apartment.  One of a kind man.
