please help .s
    #26606019 - 04/16/20 02:51 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

hey shroomery friends, i looking here for a while, fresh new sing up finally.
I have trouble about cultivation, i'm wait for your ideas and help. Whatever i did, grain jars didn't progress. After inoculation myc begin to grow in third day generally, but after then stopped, i did different moisture content jars,if too wet myc begin to grow after then stop, if too dry didn't show anything. I finally set ideal MC but still same. Liquid culture looks fine i guess, i can't figure out the problem, i'm stuck, i'm really need help. Here pics.

Edit: i bought rye from different sources, try different variants : soak 12/24hour, simmer 5/10/20min, no drying/15min drying/30min drying, 1 to 5 ml liquid culture, also spore, pc 1 to 1.5 hour, or steam cooker 2 hour. I should notice steam jars grow faster but anyway they all stop.

i use liquid culture, aprox 2-3-4cc for per quart jar, also tried 1.5cc spore, if you ask
@Mycoactive i can only find basic lid jars in my location but i'm sure its sterile

you need to modify the lid to allow for air exchange.

Was the liquid culture knocked up with spores? Thats always a shit shoot... you have to get a clean culture first.

@Ombisha: Pic #3 looks like he used LC since all the myc is starting from the bottom, which is pretty typical.

@Onlinemagichappens: We need a little more info to help you out. A few questions from me:
  • How long are you letting the jars colonize before declaring them stalled?
  • How old is your LC and are you shaking/swirling it as you inoculate each jar?
  • Are you using a still air box to do your work?

LC can be kind of hit-or-miss. I've had very weak LC that I didn't allow to grow long enough and used it anyway. Out of the 10 jars I used it on, 8 didn't do anything.

I've also had LC grow rapidly in some jars and not in others because I was lazy about breaking the myc apart and didn't swirl between jars. I just pour from a media bottle, though, so if OP is using a syringe for his LC this wouldn't really factor in.

LC inoculations can also be veeerrrrrry lazy in some cases for no apparent reason. I've seen jars take over a month to colonize and still produced viable shoeboxes when they were finally ready to spawn.

Liquid culture is clean, i read before gas exchange not important or maybe i read wrongπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ i'll poke jars and fill with polyfill or micropore in sterile environment, i hope work fine. Thanks a lot you save me. i'll update in few days.

LC jars don't need gas exchange as long as your nutrients are low. Once you inoculate the grain jars it is definitely required. I doubt you will be able to add gas exchange holes to the jars that are colonizing now and have success, since your tape or Poly-Fil needs to be sterilized in the pressure cooker as well. You should be fine in the future though. If you're going to use Poly-Fil, just make sure it's very tight in the hole or you'll have contamination problems. It also helps to trim the Poly-Fil to about 1cm on both sides of the lid after you've poked it through.

heyyoi, rescue operation is succesful, thanks again how i ignore gas exchange i dont know, new jars also began to colonize, with rescued jars i have 27 jar total 😁 i noticed without air exchange in first days colonizing really fast, now new jars exact same variants go slow, any idea why is that? Also thanks again a lot, i cant notice the problem by myself πŸ™πŸ»
