Literally thought I was going mad, after a couple of years of real intense overuse. The hospital sent me home with a counsellor who came out to talk with me a couple of times a week. ‘I got the strangest feeling after about 3 months and asked him directly whether or not he had taken psychedelics. When he admitted he had never taken any of the drugs he was advising me in, I asked him to leave. I’ve never gotten over how I felt that day......
Well, LSD is one thing, it's more prone to causing psychosis, as well as HPPD, compared to something like mushrooms, or Psilohuasca, or DMT/Ayahuasca, primarily because LSD binds to and activates the Dopamine 2 receptor, whereas the Tryptamines like Psilocin do not, i don't think DMT does either but i'm not sure but Psilocin definitely not. But yes, in general, overuse, especially when you should probably be taking a break or spacing things out a bit, can probably send you over the edge.
Personally, i had nothing but good come from my 4 year daily/near daily full on Ayahuasca experiences, i did go a little what i would deem as "crazy", or rather, unstable, during that time but that was solely due to my use of Cannabis not only while on Aya but also in the day to day, which while on Aya i was sober-minded and "together" as can be, for the most part, but in my day to day, Cannabis caused me to become kind of paranoid and anxious and made me feel really uncomfortable. So overall, Cannabis caused me more problems than my 4 year regular consumption of Aya did, so that's also something to look out for if one concomitantly consumes Psychedelics on a regular basis or at intense dosages with Cannabis. I also smoked Tobacco a lot so that generally helped me with groundedness. I recently quit smoking Cannabis specifically because, even though i haven't touched oral DMT in 5 years now except for a very light dose of Mimosa a couple months or so ago, Cannabis is like a full blown Psychedelic for me now so i can't smoke it unless i wanna go deep so i quit smoking it. But had it not been for the Cannabis, i would've been just fine even with my rather excessive consumption of Ayahuasca for 4 years, even though i was consuming fully immersive, intense, overwhelming dosages.
Granted, people are different, and it's hard to say what's what exactly when it comes to some of the reactions some people have, especially due to really intense experiences or regular consumption, and some people do have pre-dispositions to psychosis and such, so maybe i'm just lucky that my use didn't send me over the edge lol, but with that said, people in South America purportedly consume Ayahuasca very regularly for years and years, decades even, maybe not daily/near daily lol but pretty regularly still, and you generally don't hear about shamans going crazy over there, if anything, they seem pretty dang level headed, and i can see why lol.
Even though they don't bind to dopamine receptors, they're still involved with releasing some extra dopamine and using those receptors. Even the luxury of food releases some dopamine, since it's the "reward" chemical and can make people feel good, and too much is implicated in causing schizophrenic symptoms, but that isn't actually related to schizophrenics having extra dopamine (in which there's the whole study that showed "psychedelics don't really leave extra dopamine in urine," since it ended up being false).
Just seeing food releases dopamine, so it becomes associated. Cannabis isn't a full blown psychedelic to me, but it's more psychedelic with a lower tolerance, which would be once or twice a month, or once a week.
The main reason why it's called a mild psychedelic instead of a classical one like the tryptamines is because the psychoactive chemicals aren't alkaloids, but rather, resins, in the form of trichomes. But terpenes also give flavor to cannabis and influence effects.
I don't believe cyanescens are stronger than cubensis, even though they're said to contain more psilocybin. But from my experience cyanescens are easier to feel or "notice." Most people merely say they like mushrooms because they're "natural" and LSD is synthetic. Psychedelics, and weed, used to make the user go crazy but now they can heal, and aren't just for recreation.
But I mainly find it interesting how much cannabis synergizes with hallucinogens. To me, it's more potent than it seems. It's similar to how powerful LSD can be on a paper or gel tab, or whatever miniscule amount you see dropped on a sugar cube or a tab.
Mushrooms are related to shamanism because psilocybin is similar to DMT, which is the active component in ayahuasca, usually from Psychotria viridis, and the harmine and harmaline alkaloids being from Banisteriopsis caapi. Phlegm in Mestizo shamanism is what's required to make new darts (virote/tsentsak) and icaros. Icaros are the songs the curandero plays during a healing ceremony.
Darts are invisible pathogenic objects that sorcerers/brujas make with their mouth. They make sucking/blowing sounds with their mouth to shoot a dart at someone. The shaman as a healer sucks darts out with their mouth. Icaros can be learned anytime, not just during la dieta, in which it's said abstinence from sex is also required. A shaman also could do mushrooms to answer questions others ask.
Mushrooms can make things look "reptilian" but acid could too in some ways, but there's also some associated cross memories and previous experiences with either substance that might come into play during a trip. But DMT is also related to "reptilians," which are related aliens, through the "reptilian-gray alien" information.
That's because DMT is related to the "pineal gland," which is the third eye. DMT can make the user go to other dimensions or travel within the spiritual planes of existence.
The third eye in humans as what is now the pineal gland hasn't been proven to make DMT but it's been found in the lung. That doesn't necessarily make it less special. The pituitary gland is near the pineal, by the hypothalamus in the brain, and is related to vital functions in the body, as it's known to make melatonin, which is N-acetyl-5-methoxy-tryptamine. If you remove the acetyl group, then put two methyl groups there, 5-methoxy-DMT is obtained. But they're all related to serotonin too.
