Eventually think about upgrading your dehydrator (I know, I know- just one more thing..). Last one I got was a slightly smaller one from Cabela's (about 70% of the capacity of my other 2) that dries seven racks of fruits cracker dry in 8-9hrs. I like being able to turn over more dry product faster with less space. Should be safe to leave yours on while at work. They're designed to run as such.

Yeah, I have a cheap dehydrator now, so I'm not taking the chance of it burning down my apartment. I've left them on the rack up until now, don't notice any significant loss of potency either. Was mostly curious if the jar idea had some flaws I haven't thought about. I'll probably try it with some of the shrooms in the next few days to gain some empirical knowledge!
Edit: better dehydrator is definitely already on my to-buy list. Just not a pressing matter rn.

I’d wait for it to actually turn green.
Sometimes myc does weird stuff on cakes.

A couple of quick basic questions:
1. Can syringes and needles be reused? I received some LC in a syringe and I dropped some to agar and some to broth using a fresh needle. Can I reuse that needle or should I discard it?
2. Does LC need gas exchange? If I make LC in a media bottle, there’s no gas exchange - is this a problem?
Thanks in advance

1. Yes you can not a problem.
2. Not much no a media bottle doesn't seal perfectly atleast none of mine do. They work fine for LC it shouldn't be a problem at all. When I used those media bottles I like the lid back off ever so slightly so a vacuum isn't formed but even when using them tight I haven't had a problem. I'm not the most experienced when it comes to LC and I've always hated them but I'm just started to get back into using them and going to give them another shot. Hope this helps in some way shape or form.

When you're doing agar, how long does it generally take between spore print -> agar and first transfer? Waiting impatiently for my spores to germinate lol

Anyone know if drying desiccant bags (1g silica gel) in the dehydrator works? I don't have that color changing silica which tells you whether or not it's "full" of moisture, but have had the bags for years so I bet it's time for drying them out either way. Would putting them in the oven work, if dehydrator is not a good idea? Afraid of burning the paper bags that hold the silica.

Most guides will tell you to bake your silica to get it back to the absorption state, and dehydrators don’t get even close to oven temps sooo.... dehydrating probably won’t work. Unless you’ve got a heat controlled dehydrator that gets to 300. At least that’s what my common knowledge would tell me.

You don't need to hit some magic temperature. I always put silica that I'm planning to use into the dehydrator with fruits when drying them.

Yeah those aborted and now the myc taking them back
I had some Amazons do that recently, had a killer pinset, they got about halfway mature then stopped growing, then started getting myc fuzz all over them

I've read the red light promotes mycelium growth, and blue light promotes fruiting, so he might be on to something

Red light produces mycelium? No wayz.....
I just realized that petri dishes are great for making high-purity spore prints. Maybe not for huge shroom caps but definitely for smaller ones. Good thing i got some as a Secret Santa gift 2 years ago. Thanks Secret Santa!

I'll try the dehydrator then. And maybe a couple bags in the oven to see if they can take it.
Too lazy to do the conversion atm, but my dehydrator goes up to 70C,guessing thats far from 300F.

Can I shake my jars to hard and too much? I shook some jars for probably a good 5 minutes thinking it would distribute grains better. Did I actually just damage the mycelium and stunt growth?
