So what does surveillance testing encompass?
Tracking down people that have been exposed to positive cases and then tested?
I think our leadership isn't doing a bad job. I think all the folks he invites to his press conferences sure want us to think he's doing a bad job. But it's not a bad job really.
I think it is a tough situation overall for anyone to handle.
St. Vincent hospital in Santa Fe just laid off 300 employees.

It's a tough situation for anyone to handle, and there's a lot of damned if you do, damned if you don't for leaders during pandemics. If too few people die, you did too much, you were too draconian. If too many people die, you didn't do enough.
But he didn't, and he's damned.
We had intelligence on this from back in November or something crazy like that. We gutted the team that is supposed to deal with this back in 2018. Idk if the national stockpile of PPE was depleted from H1N1(probs), but it was certainly never replenished. And while that might not fall directly on Trump, he is trying to declare absolute power without being willing to take any responsibility at all - and imo, that's not the making of a good leader. I 100% trust my state government(at least, my governor), and the entire North East State governments over the feds at this point.

I used to live in one that was converted to apartments and...yeeeesh, would not want to live in one now. I have no doubt that being in an apartment building in general probably increases risk of infection, verse a single family dwelling or even something like a duplex or rowhome.
yaay.
Yeah my apartment I smell other people's cooking, and they complain about the weed smell coming from mine, if its not containing smells it isn't containing viruses. The elevator is a death trap I only take it up (walk down), and if there is anyone else I wait for the next one.

Yeah I'm in a duplex/rowhome situation myself at the moment. Luckily ventilation seems to be okay, and I have a private entrance, so I don't really have communal areas to worry about.
SUPER glad I sprung for a place with a washer and dryer, I was considering places without. Communal laundry in apartment buildings would be worse, but having to use a laundromat during this whole thing would be the absolute worst, in terms of risk, I think. I also forwarded all my mail to my parents so I don't have to use the shared mailbox on property.

This is why were fucked. These people have no sense of patriotism. Not willing to make a single sacrifice for the common good. Michigan has one of the worst outbreaks in the county and these mouth breathers can’t even bother to wear a mask as they pile on top of each other in their mindless rage.
My mother has told me about the things people did in Boston during World War Two to protect the country. Cities turned all the lights out at night so the enemy would not be able to target them. This required people to be in their houses after sunset with the windows covered so no light could get out. These fuckers would habe turned on all the lights and opened their windows because “freedom.” They would have strung the Christmas lights cause “jesus.” The cult of trump has completely fucked this country. They don’t care about anyone but themselves and they’re too fucking stupid to realize they are fucking themselves over too.

In order for that to be an effective (edit- measure) wouldn't we need for pretty much everyone to have a test and most importantly take it at the same time?
If you go get tested.. show negative... but get infected while waiting for everyone else to get tested... it's kind of chasing your own tail, no?
No, we need surveillance testing. Right now we are doing diagnostic testing. Testing a random sample of the population looking for emerging outbreaks in communities.
Frankly this country lacks the leadership to get this done and I think we’re pretty much fucked. Just realized that every attempt to make a SARS vaccine has failed, and I’m not sure why they would have any better luck with this virus.
Agreed. I've pinned my hopes on antiviral therapeutics.

People are skeeved out about backdoors.
Rightfully so.
We gave up a lot of right to privacy after 9/11 that we never got back, and I am scared the same thing will happen.
But at the same time we absolutely need cohesive contact tracing to get everything up and running.

Have you seen the map, though? It's fascinating and terrifying at the same time.

There's a link to a short video. They took the data of a small group of people visiting Fort Lauderdale beach and tracked where they went around the country.

The man was lambasted for every step he took initially.
No one could say in November anything we know now about the problem. It was too early and there was not enough information.
And the states should not be relying so heavily on the Federal government in the first place to be honest. It has become the norm but the Constitution describes the states being responsible for the health and wellbeing of their populations. That is not the role of the Federal gov despite the role they are playing today.
The reason the President likely seems to have dropped the ball is because he is actually problem solving outside of his scope of duty and is therefore not properly tooled to fill the roll of pandemic savior as is being projected on him.
Cutting the national preparedness team was likely his acknowledgment of this. Often best fit solutions need to be tailored at a local or regional level because of differences in the culture, people, habits, jobs, etc. The further you are from Washington DC, the less you can relate to Washington DC. And the further away you're spending money, the less efficiently it is spent because everyone along the way has to get paid. Not to mention the difficulty in grasping a situation from potentially thousands of miles away.
How many states have their own pandemic preparedness plans and state stockpiles? Local?
It makes more sense to look at the many that have dropped the ball within their scope of duty than to turn blame to the President, operating above and beyond his scope of duty for answers to these questions.
But Trump is the punching bag. It is the easy route, that's for sure.
And he can clearly take it, but it is a misappropriation of where the actual responsibility lies for preparing for these types of events- with the state and local governments.
And no, a good leader should never take responsibility for their subordinate's mistakes especially when those mistakes are not the leader's responsibility in the first place. The leader should call them out on it and correct the issue which is what has happened.

this crisis is a 9/11 every two days
What people don’t understand is the economy is going to be in the shitter until people feel safe enough to not be living in fear of getting infected every time they go out. People aren’t going to be at restaurants or bars. The people who do act like things are normal will start getting sick.
Nothing is gonna to be normal for a long time

Oh, for sure. Never seen so many ads for masks and lysol in my life. In this case, though, I don't know if I mind location tracking. If it helps them put out these dumpster fire hotspots, that's okay. I can turn off location service at any time.
Plus, restaurants in my area are starting to advertise a roll of TP with purchase of a meal, and that information might be handy one day...

I do all my laundry at 3 am when no one is there, its communal, i wear mask and gloves and wash my face and hands and every time I come back.

Didn't you see the video posted here earlier (one of many out there) with a neighborhood full of almost a couple hundred black people having a block party? And you're trying to pin the blame on only Trump supporters for not taking precautions? Bitch about people not making some sacrifices, sure, but don't act like it's only one type of person doing it. If you were such a "patriot" (since when do you care about patriotism?) yourself you wouldn't only be caring about right wingers doing this.
