Cellophane bags from dollar tree experiment
    #26604286 - 04/15/20 10:06 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

So I did a pc run with cellophane bags from dollar tree. I did this in hopes of finding a way to use less polypropylene for my diy oyster grow bags I plan on selling soon. If you’re extremely careful it can be done but you have to make sure of a few things...

1) get as much air out as possible but don’t tape/clip them overly tight. You still want air to escape easily

2)double wrap with aluminum foil. My first run with only one layer had 5/6 of the bags melt. But I was also dealing with the bank on the phone bc someone hacked my Nintendo account and wiped my bank account sooooooo....

3) don’t talk on the phone while running you pc
3.5) don’t give Nintendo you debit card number
3.75) don’t get charged overdraft fees

4)after you impulse seal times out keep pressing down and let the seam cool for about 5-10 seconds before lifting the handle. I haven’t decided if multiple short bursts or one long burst is better.

Just to be clear I am in no way claiming this is a tek to follow. Just some fun lessons I learned the hard way because I always allow my ADD to get the best of me and can’t stop experimenting.

As soon as i have the  temperature on the impulse sealer dialed in to appropriately suit the  material i then always remove the bag as soon as i hear the element stop humming.

Or else it thins out the seal from the residual heat. Removing it asap allow the seam to rapidly cool and remain uncompromised throughout the length of the entire seal.

When we used to make soap we used cellophane and it was a bitch at first trying to make it perfect.
