Wild ???edible??? mushroom I.D.
    #26604295 - 04/15/20 10:10 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hi folks

I've found a few wild mushrooms that look like agaricus & oysters (pics below) & am wondering if anyone can reliably identify them + whether they are edible?

The first 4 pics are of what I think are agaricus 'field-mushrooms' that were growing in grass in suburbia on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

The next 3 oyster style mushrooms were growing in decaying wood in nearby bushland on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

Also are there any poisonous look-alikes to these that I should be aware of?

Thanks!

PS - I have more pics if anyone needs

Bless you on your journey!

The first ones do indeed look like an agaricus, I personally cant be sure which one so it may be edible.
In answer to your question, yes there is a toxic agaricus (agaricus xanthodermus) that looks like a normal edible mushroom but stains yellow when bruised and smells phenolic. Heating a piece in the microwave will help activate the nasty chemical smell.
Second looks to be omphalotus nidiformis, or ghost fungus. If so it is bioluminescent and toxic
