Nice find! First is in the aeruginosus-luteofolius clade. Second is in the spectabilis-imperialis clade.

^ Ah, excellent. I should have mentioned that the log-growing spectabilis-imperialis were small... largest cap only about the size of a quarter. Not exactly a "Jumbo Gym" but I guess this clade is quite variable?

Size is irrelevant. But those are tiny gyms! They certainly appear bigger in the pictures.
Nice photos by the way.

I'm so used to shooting macro that I forget that viewers need reference for size. Next time I'll bring a quarter for comparison. Curious if these mushrooms will get much bigger. I'll go back and find out.

Most of them are opened up already, they probably won't get much bigger.

Interestingly, I also found big dry mushrooms at this same site about a month ago, and I thought they were very old Gyms. I'll check this site occasionally. Maybe next season my timing will be better.

That second spore print does seem to be more of a cinnamon/rusty brown color and the fact that the veil has broken while being so small does seem to point towards a pholiota sp.

Wow. Didn't even look at the spore print. Late night id'ing... Yeah, don't eat those 😁 Sorry about that. Thanks Moria.

Thanks all, and I had no plans of consumption so no biggie there. I just thought the second species were real beauties and fun to photograph despite being surrounded by poison oak.

They both look like pholiota spore prints but the spores on the annulus of #1 looks like Gymnopilus, I don't know about this one, curious to see what the other TI's have to say.

^ Thanks, I loved finding those little guys growing on the log. They are nothing like anything else I've found. But of course I'm still new to mushroom hunting. Been obsessed with it lately!

The one with pinkish, fibrous stipe, annulus and no veil remnants on the cap are the same as the one with yellow, squamose stipe, no annulus and veil remnants on the cap? There's also different spore print colours..

Yes, Thanks Alan, and the rest of you. If I can get my hands on a true black light I will try that - picked up a few more specimens today.
