1920’s farmhouse or modern build?
    #26603631 - 04/15/20 06:05 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

I’m trying to buy a 1920’s farmhouse on 20 acres at the moment. I need some good vibes. The pandemy is screwing up the housing market. Send my your VIBES please.

Also, given the option, from the title. What would you choose and why.?

As long as everything is up to snug and doesn't require any work. If it comes with a woodstove, that would be cool. I would probably first rip the walls off if the insulation isn't good enough, and well insulated windows.

Good vibes, you got this!

I'd go with modern build, but pay more for quality.

Good luck that sounds awesome!

As for either/or, I tend to like things with a bit of history, so I'd totally go for the 1920s farmhouse over anything modern. ("Location, location, location" above all, however)

Like Blackhawk was saying, it'd be better to have it up to code as much as possible, but even in "design-it-yourself brand-new" you sometimes have to reroof and do a few other things. (Or maybe that was bad luck on a family member's part?)

With "old farmhouse" be prepared to find so many extra nails when you remodeled/do any work that it's insane. (I always like to pretend the extra nails are because the old family was haunted by fae spirits and tried to enchant their house against them, rather than "carpenters were paid by the pound of nails used" sort of history)
