Shoeboxes for bulk instead of monotubs

Shoeboxes seem easy enough to do and space saving. What are some of the pitfalls to watch out for if using them instead of monotubs for bulk grows?

The height of the mushrooms. They can get tall and then you have to dubtub or use a bag. Or just harvest them when they start pushing lid up.

Yeah I don’t have many problems with too tall shrooms unless I make the sub real deep, but grocery bags are perfect with shoeboxes.
Fit perfectly both for liners or on top too keep humidity up for big mushrooms.

What ratio spawn to coir do you use in your boxes and what is a typical yield for you out of one?

I had couple aa+ hit top of dubtub from inch thick sub. It was cool. I never tried the bags yet. I think I'm do shoeboxes and sweater boxes exclusively for little bit.
One qt spawn and three or four big handfuls of coir is how I measure it. Haha. Harvest varies too much. One qt spawn should get u up to a OZ +/- . Variety, environmental, person cultivating, it all depends on alot of stuff to get the weight you want in a harvest.

I do one quart of spawn to probably 2 or 2.5 coir. I’m not sure I just fill it up to where it needs to be without measuring.
Yield depends on the culture/clone. Usually the first flush is 200 wet minimum, all the way up to 500 sometimes with PE clones I have.
Also depends if you’re gonna let it run 3+ flushes too.

I think something you need to watch for is moisture, because the shoeboxes are smaller, they dry out faster than a mono

Shoeboxes stacked, staggered within a mono for environment is what I'm experimenting with now. Works quite well, 4 shoeboxes within a mono takes up the same footprint as the mono itself, however the 4 shoeboxes within have more surface area than the surface area of substrate in the mono would be.

Are you adding anything to the bottom of the mono to keep the moisture up? Or just kinda restricting the airflow with that mono around?

Just putting the lid on. Humidity is the same in there as just a normal mono.

Underbed tubs are good too.
Massive surface area but same height as shoeboxes.

I think it’s equivalent to just under 5 shoeboxes.

I have 2 of those A.k.a, but I'm afraid to upgrade from shoeboxes. I like my spawn separate.

That's the big benefit for me. I've lost too many tubs so keeping it 1 jar to one box until I get my spawn down seems to be the best option right now.

Just started my 2nd and 3rd unmodded mono tubs. Thought mono tubs would be a good idea for yields (coming from a growing weed pov, i.e. bigger pot bigger plant) but they are quite tall. I was looking to switch to the underbed tubs last night thinking I could place a 6500k over 2 underbeds, then with spacers(terracotta pots) stack another 2 on top with another 6500k above them, replacing 2 60qts with 4 37qts. Assuming doubling the surface area. Only concern is the 7in height?
*Edit* Just measured my monos and they're each 2 inches smaller than the underbeds listed online, so 4 would replace the 2 and be slightly wider and taller.

If you have to dub tub shoeboxes why not use a mono?

What are your guys' experiences with smaller fruits when using shoeboxes? I personally never really got all around large fruits from shoeboxes even when using a clone that makes large fruits in monos. Maybe 1 decent sized fruit in a sea of stubby bastards.
