Using grass seeds as a popcorn/rye/millet alternative

During this pandemic I'm having a hard time sourcing popcorn kernels from my usual shops and supermarkets, all the dried food has been stockpiled by crazy people. Along with that, WBS seems to be out of stock everywhere too for some reason... The one this I know is in abundance is grass seeds. They're just standard lawn grass seeds, untreated and relatively cheap. I know they can be used as spawn, but I'm unsure about the correct moisture content. I assume their size and shape would make it hard to determine the perfect amount by eye and feel alone. Is there a % I'm aiming for with grass seeds? Or better yet, a reliable Tek? There's a few posts out there but nothing much came from them, and most resulted in failure.

They're actually really easy to hydrate because it is very difficult to make them explode. I use RGS a lot. Personally I just bring water to a rapid boil, add my grass seed, bring the water back up to a boil, drop heat to medium, stir every 10 minutes, drain after 40.
Violet uses a tek where you dump RGS and boiling water in a bucket and close the lid then leave it overnight. That works too its just too much of a bother for me.

Thank you for the responses. As stupid as it makes me sound, I was actually unaware that rye grass was the same as "lawn" grass. Rye grain is not too common in the UK, so always assumed it referred to rye grain/berries. So while my answer could have been found using the search feature, you did clear up my confusion regarding rye in general I went out earlier and got a KG of 50:50 red fescue grass and ryegrass, along with 500g of ryegrass. They both look identical, but the mixture is half the price for twice as much, so I'm assuming they'll perform equally well. Last question, Do I need to worry about drying the seeds surface before pressure cooking, like with popcorn and other grain? I've messed up when preparing millet before and ended up with jars of seed mush, so just trying to avoid a repeat Thanks again for the help.

Use the term RGS in the search bar, it'll make your life easier because it will take out all the rye berry posts.
Deffo go with whatever's cheaper, totally doesn't matter. The only thing to look out for is the label where it identifies the bag's contents. Avoid anything with a high percentage of 'inert material'
Drying is really easy, especially if you only boil for 40 minutes like I suggested. That will take you to about 80% water capacity. Then any excess water outside your grains will get sucked in during PC. I personally don't even use a strainer lol, not that I suggest that, just illustrating a point. I cook in my PC and use the metal circle that came with it (the one you put your jars on) to hold the RGS back while I dump the water down the sink. Then I scoop right from PC into jars. Easy 👍
