Ah, okay, thanks for the correction. I was using the more mainstream definition, and didn't realize that I was missing the colloquial "trip lingo" definition. So to clarify, when I was talking about environmental factors as "set" what I was actually talking about was setting. Whereas set is simply the mental component?
Good to know!

Interdependently Originated Aggregates of Conditioned “Mind” ( “Illusory Sense of Self” and-or/ “Set” or “Constructed Consciousness”) :
***
Ignorance ↓ Formations ↓ Consciousness ↓ Name & Form ↓ Six Sense Bases ↓ Contact ↓ Feeling ↓ Craving ↓ Clinging ↓ Becoming ↓ Birth ↓ Aging ↓ & Death ↓ In total = Holistic “Set”
***
(Simply an approximation of my preference for understanding set/setting-Psychedlics)

This is interesting.
Would you be willing to elaborate?

SocratesShroom,
I would, but it would take up much time and go off topic if I did it. Here is an excellent elucidation and summation of what, in the Buddhist tradition are termed “Sankharas” or “Skhandas”. Concise and profound, written by an incredible monk from the Theravāda Forest tradition of Hinayana Buddhism ( way of the elders ).
https://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/bodhi/bps-essay_43.html ; ( - highly recommended )
Or if your not familiar with the context and heavy Buddhist terminology in that essay there is less complex, yet sufficient explanation in wiki-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skandha#Description ; ( wikis done good work here too )

Thank you all for your responses! Makes me feel good reading your responses with great intent and advice! Nothing less expected from such a great community!
I do believe if we only took mushrooms when our set was 100% we would have only a few experiences under our belts. The mushrooms have helped me a ton and I feel so much better about an issue I've been dealing with.
Feel like light had been poured upon a dark room. I feel less guilty. Even though during that trip I wanted it to end because of how much the mushrooms were belitting me and telling me how terrible I am. But in a sober mind now - I feel reborn? Was it because I dealt with underlying issues I never acknowledged within a sober mind?
I guess I do have to give mushrooms the benefit of the doubt and understand that it may be a hardship trip but the end game is what matters. Lately things have really boring on this side with no work and not much to do - I've been wanting to take mushrooms just because I'm bored.
I mean.. we have the time to do it now but I live with my parents so I would still be stuck in the house and that's where my setting is not up to par. Kind of ducks right now.
Really do want to take abother dose and see where it takes me. I may dose tonight and take 3g or so again and just put my headphones in and ride the music. I've done in plenty of times in my house before... I just don't look at it as "ideal". And I noticed a lot of the "negative" thoughts about myself come when there's no music playing.
Found that out my last trip. I absolutely love music on mushrooms - but Damn when you're not distracted by any type of audio... you are really confronted with your subconscious and having a talk with yourself like you're two completely different people - its very odd but very, very therapeutic.

I definitely consider my set and setting before deciding to trip, but that doesn't mean I will only trip if those things are currently "good".
Usually I avoid the mushrooms if I'm too tired to ride it out. Other than that, assuming I have a safe/semi-safe place to be, I prefer to dose as I am. Happy, sad, whatever.
I have tripped when I was in a horrible mind space and had blissful times and vice versa.
The only thing that may prevent me from taking them other than being sleep deprived is if I know I'm not in a "set" to let go. I'm okay with being anxious, depressed, whatever, as long as I can still find a part of me that can be grounded and accept things as they come.
The most important part to me is letting go. Seeing what I see without trying to change it.
Also, I try not to "give in" to the mushroom so much as I exist on an even playing field with it. This is a trick I learned from Carl Jung when he talked about Active Imagination. You may meet stronger and stranger entities than you can imagine. It's important to enter a dialog with them, but it should be one between equals.
