Regarding Pins on Agar
    #26601578 - 04/14/20 08:43 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

I've often seen pics with primordia / pin form on agar.

Like, from this post.

I've got several plates that are fully colonized and have been sitting for months and never pin. Under what conditions do pins arise out of agar?

Depends on genetics more than petri dish conditions. Texas orange cap will do it for me every time for instance. My pesa will not

Also cloning petri dish pins usually produces good genetics

Oh OK. Makes sense that genetics would dictate how aggressive to be with reproduction efforts. I wonder if this trait is associated with the same traits used to select the most desirable sector of a multi-colony growth.

The trait here is that it's a good fruiter.

My plates usually all fruit if I leave them alone. I'm mostly dealing with B+.

What are you wrapping your plates with btw? It's possible that they dry out before they can fruit.

I use parafilm to wrap. So good fruiters - do you mean grows which have a high yield will tend to also pin on agar? I wonder how many iterations of selection it would take to get those kinds of genetics.
