What could this be?
    #26601354 - 04/14/20 07:03 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

Hello beautiful people!  I hope you are all staying safe and sane during these quarantine times.  I am hoping that I could get some opinions on what the circled segment in the attached picture could be.  This is in my monotub that I just mixed on 4/10 with colonized millet (strain is PE6).  Everything looks to be colonizing fine, but this section caught my eye. Any idea as to what it could be??

Let me know if you need any additional information!

It could be the cobwebby type mold, you’ll know soon because it blows up like mad in a day. I’ve never had cube mycelium do that.

Did you mix your grain spawn well? That looks like a pretty big pile sitting in top there. Maybe won’t hurt but the more evenly distributed the better

I definitely could have mixed it better but I was trying to be quick about having it exposed. Any tips? Should I just douse it with peroxide?

You could throw it way, be done and learn from it or you can spray with peroxide, deal with it and learn from it.

Was it from a multi spore syringe?

Think I'll try the peroxide because I'd rather not trash this!  I'm pretty amazed by how resilient these things can be.  I have some amazonians that I'd pretty much given up on. I put them in a walmart bag to trash and forgot them on the balcony. I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of mushrooms that had grown on the cake when I peeked in.

Being a newbie to this, I went the route of buying my sub from a vendor.  Not sure if this will get me in trouble but it's the boomr bag, primarily coco coir/horse manure.

When you have clean colonized spawn it is pretty contam resistant. When you mix to bulk sub you’re mixing in all kinds of other spores no matter how quick you try to be so your worry should be making sure you have clean spawn, and properly pasteurized bulk substrate. Unless you’re using coir/verm then you don’t need to properly pasteurize. With those two things you will get to a first flush at the least, basically no matter what.

If that is cobweb then it is the one mold you can actually kill, and that’s with peroxide, so that’s cool. I hope it work out
