Reminds me of the thick spores guy who ignored me with all his puppet accounts for the same reason.

I don't get why people get so mad if you tell them they're wrong.

Changing out water can be problematic because you're upsetting the whole environment... I guess a simple drain plug or valve of some kind would make it a more viable option with less turbulence and risk of damage.

Upsetting it in a good way.

Non-problematic water change tek:
Prereq: Have cakes on racks inside tub.
1. Remove tub lid and put on stable surface upside down.
2. Lift racks with cakes on them from the tub and place racks on lid.
3. Change water.
4. Place racks back in tub.
5. Replace lid.
Takes less than 5 minutes, cakes are untouched and undisturbed. Actually fogs up the tub again.
I did this when I had too much coir fall into the water making it look shitty and nothing but good things followed.

Edit: If you don't have racks that fit, I bought cheap, thin cookie racks at the dollar store and tied 2 of them together with zip ties for each 66qt tub to fit almost perfectly. Sat them on some squat upside down drinking glasses.

Yeah man I was picturing how that might look before I read this post. My water was getting to me. So I changed it. Picking my rack up placing in dif tote. Then water change.

Had a pin hanging off side and it's a cliff hanger now.

Any way was thinking it be a cool set up having flowing water. Somehow integrated into the process maybe some lighting etc. fantasy :rasta:

So what is the consensus: is it beneficial to have a colonization period for the coating for 2+ days completely sealed with no FAE, or are fruiting conditions and colonization conditions the same, and FAE should be introduced from the start? I see a lot of conflicting advice / opinions on this matter.

FAE from the start.

We need to update this tek if people are still asking this question in 2024.

Here's what mine look like now, should i spray them with light mist multiple times a day at this stage? I've heard it might cause contams on shrooms but i guess it's a myth?

Only mist if neccessary, not on a schedule.

These look a bit dry to me, so misting now is fine i guess.

I ended up over misting recently which caused my shrooms to get soggy. Once they grow beyond pins just hold off and let the tub do its thing.

So from what I gathered, crack the lid and just pay attention to surface conditions? If I'm having to mist every 1-2 days, adjust the lid more closed for less FAE?

I'd mist daily from second day on up until you start seeing fruiting bodies developing i guess, on which day after DN'R are you on rn? Mind sharing a pic?

I have to say that I was misting my BRF cakes twice or thrice daily, even up until harvesting the fruits and had no issues. My best grow to date in fact. They were Mazatapec, and I’m in the dead of winter near the ocean.

Back in May of last year I was going on and on about keeping the lid sealed even longer than 48 hours until the myc looked like Mateja's pics. If it takes 8 days with the lid sealed until they look like the pics, so be it, I thought.

Then fahtster got sick of me spouting bullshit and smacked me down with some good points about the benefits of fae from day 1. Not only did I see the obvious logic in his words, but it helped me resolve a conflict I had in my head about why you would let bulk grows breathe right away but starve cakes of air.

Always give them a little air (not too much!)
