It’s not a big deal, just make sure they stay properly hydrated and you’ll be fine

I’ve never noticed much of a difference between vermiculite and coir for the roll. The water tub is maintaining humidity.

Bleach in the water tub reservoir at 100:1 ratio.
Change my mind.

We don't use bleach here. It has no use in mycology.

What happens to bleach when it’s diluted to 1:100? How long will it sanitize?

Honestly I left some tap water in there for a few days and it smells fucking rancid. I might do that or just boil the water before using it for water tubs because obviously the piping is fucked here.

I let it go to the first flush, but it's gotten so bad recently and I'm not sure why.
To be honest it smelled so fucking bad I took my cakes out after misting and smelled them individually. I thought one of them was a goner but everything's fine, it's just the rancid ass tap water.

Doesn't make a difference. Bacteria don't care if it's distilled or not.

Shut up dude. This is about ruling out the tap water as the source of the contam.
And you also gave misinformation about bleach this site has decades of history on the subject, has bleach teks and bleach dunk and rolls and big accounts discussing it's use; just ignore me please.

Yeah in theory distilled could be better if we're assuming the tap water is ultra loaded in nasty crap. It could be there's some extra nutritive stuff in there that makes it bloom that hard too.
It's old piping that I'm pretty sure never really got any update in 70+ years. Kinda shitty place I'm planning to move out of soon anyway.

The 70th called, they want their tek back.
Using bleach does nothing good, it harms the mycelium and makes it even more prone to contams.
This site has a lot of outdated information and using bleach is one of them.

You don’t need bleach, you don’t need h2o2. I had the same water in my water tub from the tap for like 2 months and nothing ever went wrong. Just smelled like water and mycelium.
Maybe your water sucks where you are, which is understandable and not a dig at you, but don’t bleach it dude. Just change it out if it’s bugging you.
“But hobbit im lazy and don’t wanna do that please let me bleach my food grade mushrooms.”
Shut up and bury your cakes in coir. If the water tub is too uh oh stinky for you then do anything else that’s just as good.
