Imho the lid should be cracked a little the whole time.
Don't "remove" it.

Yeah, poor choice of words. I can see some pins already, so I'll going to crack it open a bit.

You don’t need separate conditions for colonization and fruiting. Keep FAE throughout the process. It’s alive and breathing, don’t suffocate it

Member said they see pins in a post from an hour ago. You’re looking at pictures from 2 days ago. I don’t birth cakes until I see pins rather. I usually get mushrooms 2 days post dunk.

oh ok, i birthed some of mine (4) about 23 days after inoculation and they were consolidating for quite some time too, now i got 7 cakes going, 1 jar got contaminated, so next time should i really wait until i see pins? I wonder how that affects yeild and How much longer would that take.. This is my first grow btw

The first post of this thread from Mateja says to leave them in a fully closed box, then open the box to allow FAE at a later point...

I'm not sure why it's written that way. Probably because it will help raise humidity very quickly. We put tubs into fruiting conditions at spawn. I think cakes are pretty hardy when fully colonized and having the fresh air to wick moisture away from the surface is going to be that good pinning trigger.

I roll my cakes and leave them sealed in the water tub for a day. It seems to help the vermiculite or coir adhere to the cakes. Mist the cakes and straight to fruiting.

I know my cakes are ready when I see pins after 4-5 weeks post inoculation. Pins survive dunking just fine. Yield is good for cakes. Pins.

Good to know, that's more than a week less for the fast first 4 i birthed, i think mateja said it takes 3-4 days for the pin to reach past the coir layer so i guess they're all pinning now underneath, today i put them under my spiderfarmer grow light, the cakes are 150cm away from it so i think it won't hurt, it's bright like daylight in there so i really hope it will help, up until today i was just using led desk lamp but i need it in my bed lol so this spiderfarmer in my tent is pulling 48W at minimum which is very bright for SMD chips so i raised it that high to not stress them.

one of the cakes shot today

Everybody here seems to be using the water tub tek for "active" mushrooms, using PFtek. However, I read that gourmets often have a higher FAE requirement and are less CO2 tolerant than "active" mushrooms. Would a SGFC be better than a water tub for gourmet mushrooms? I tried to fruit Pink Oysters and Lions Mane using the Water tub tek but the fruits were slow to ... fruit and not that big.

I think PF Tek is more of a science experiment than a large scale production method for gourmets. Did you use the standard BRF / verm recipe or did you supplement with hardwood in any way?

Mateja said: After having dunked your colonized cakes for 24h rinse them off quickly and then use hydrated coir to coat the cakes around the sides and on the top. This outer layer should be roughly 5-10mm thick, and the coir shouldn't easily fall of, don't be afraid to press the coir firmly into place when needed, the cakes can handle it just try to make the coir layer around the same thickness for all the cakes.
I messed up and only rolled a very thin layer of wet verm instead of 5-10mm. What differences might I see, or need, because of this discrepancy?
